Not saying it isn't the case, but how could you validate this? To me the proof is in the pudding. Do those who apply for lots of cards on the same day get approved for more card bonues in the long run? I haven't seen that, other than for those who limit apps to specific issuer (e.g. to get 2 citi aa personal).
June 1 applied & approved for: Citi AA Amex Personal Citi AA Visa Personal Amex Plat Personal Amex SPG Personal Amex Delta Gold Personal (cancelled when they wouldn't comp the bonus) July 1 applied & approved for: Chase CO OnePass Personal Chase UA Select Personal BofA Aeroplan Personal BofA Alaska Personal Barclays USAir Personal Aug 1 applied & approved for: Amex Plat Business Amex SPG Business Amex Gold Business Have gotten all the bonus bumps on all cards listed (except the Delta Gold of course) Wife (well, me really) applied, approved & bonus bumped for same list as above. Only dings so far: Citi AA Business Amex Plat / Reserve Delta Personal (because Amex considers them a "duplicate" application of each other and the Gold card unless done more than a few days apart) Chase Shapphire (and might actually have gone through but don't know yet) At least some of the apps got immediate approval, some got the "call right away" and some got the dreaded "don't call us, we'll call you" but all but the 4 above eventually went through. Looks like Citi/Chase allows 2 apps in a short time, Amex allows 3. Imagine BofA / Barclays allows 2 also but didn't test with a third app on any of them so can't confirm |

I have yet to find good credit board. Most of the ones I've seen have very low member count and there is nobody who ever answers your questions

Pudding:
What you've shown is the benefit of applying for more than 1 card from the same issuer on the same day, but doesn't really address whether there is a benefit of applying for more cards from other issuers on that day. The hypothesis (to be proved or dis-proved) would be something like this: if Chase, BoA, and Barclays all pulled the same agency on July 1, would the second and third pulls show the first and second pulls. To test the hypothesis you'd need to consider what issuers pulled what bureau. For example, if Amex pulled Experian and Citi pulled Equifax on June 1 then the hypothesis was not tested. Similarly on July 1, if Chase pulled Experian, BoA pulled Equifqax, and Barclays pulled Transunion. |
a few things
I looked into the amtrak card T&C and besides the $200 amtrak ticket requirement there is also a 25k annual limit on point transfers, so any offer more than 25k is a waste unless you use amtrak and can get a ticket with the balance.
The trick of applying for multiple cards on the same date and hoping they all go through is only good for creating one credit pull instead of 2 or 3....the card companies can see that you have multiple apps in..at least for barclay cards. ..I applied for personal and business Airtran cards and found out that they dont seperate them like Amex or Citi....since the business is linked to my social, they see both.....I called for status on personal and had to offer to use $4000 of my credit line on their choice hotels card to qualify for the signature airtran card, leaving me only a $1200 limit on my choice card. Then I had to call back and get transferred 5 times to speak with a credit analyst on the business card, who told me they could see my app for the personal card, and asked me why I had applied for so many cards in the last year. I replied that I was not just getting new cards but also closing cards like my SPG business and personal, and my AA business.....I told them I live in atlanta and didnt use American airlines and wanted to get cards like the Airtran card that I would be more likely to use for the rewards. I told them I was finding some of the cards I got to be useless for rewards and wanted to change to better ones. It seemed like the major holdup on giving me the card was the fact that I had applied for so many new cards in the last year...I'm glad I spread them out and cancelled a few before applying for more, as it would be extremely hard to explain why someone would apply for 3-7 cards at once without a major business expansion or personal need for them. They also asked me why I had no credit history before 1998 (i first opened a fee free Cap1 card then, and I still have it today) I told her that I had a checking account and paid cash for most things, that I waited until I was mature and responsible enough to handle credit cards before I got one....she seemed to like that answer and extended me a business card with 5k limit and told me I now had a combined credit line of $11200 with my 3 barclay cards. Just today I got the denial letter from them with no less than 8 reasons listed for not approving me, most having to do with too many new cards, new requests, low average age, and the assorted bogus ones they throw in to make you think you have no chance to qualify. Good thing I called to talk them into it without waiting on the letter. If you take this approach to credit bonuses and apply for too many at once it will come back to bite you eventually, the next time you apply they will see that you got 7 cards at once and will wonder why. You will likely be shut down and be unable to get any cards without interogation by a credit analyst, I already had 12+ pulls in the last year and knew my chances on getting new credit approved would be shakier the more I apply for...I mean thats over 1 new card per month on average...why would anyone need to get that many new cards unless they were planning on defaulting or had debts that required major credit to get out from under. I can see their reasoning, and without telling the rep "i collect miles and I knew Airtran's program will be going to SW and wanted to get combined bonuses from your airtran cards and the SW card i will get next year from Chase"....i don't think the truth would have gotten me the card. I guess ideally the best way would be to get bonuses for a year, (or 6 months)...quit for a year to let the pulls fall off your report (cancel any churnable cards during that dry spell) then start again. This is all major YMMV and some people have 30+ cards open and can get more....while others cant have more than a few with any one bank before they have to shut some down in order to get new ones. I feel my way of 2-3 new cards every few months, while shutting down old cards as their yearly fee comes up. Having a good explanation for why I am closing old accounts and opening new ones ready when I talk to analysts, will keep me in the game longer than applying for 5+ at once with no apparent reason. 7 in a day will raise flags and after you have too many requests in a year you will not be instantly approved and will have to explain to an analyst why...and they will have days to look at you current report and see how many apps you put in this time. |

But you're right wise2u that in the event of a manual review, having multiple apps a day at regular intervals is a huge, huge red flag that you're a churner and won't be profitable for the bank. |
Are we now using the word "churn" to mean something other than applying for and receiving the signup bonus more than once for the same card?

Just signed wife up for amex pr gold, chase sapphire, chase marriott, and citi biz. Already has cori personals, spg's. What next? Ideally amex to limit her inquiries.

I leave my churning to 1 or 2 cards a year mainly because it is too much hassle. At age 26 I had a UA CC with a $36k line of credit and no job, still in school! ha Now, some years later, I get denied but I have a steady job, steady income, and a lot more wealth than at age 25. Very YMMV ... I think CHASE red flagged me in Feb when I applied for the 50k CO card having a current CO card from 2008. I have since been denied the HYATT card.... we'll see what happens |

The issue is the day of applications, the competition can't see the other inquiries made on the same day. They will see them several days later, when reported, but not the day you make all the apps.
