A certain-shaped card reader

So, they charge fee. I get that. But would there be anything stopping you from, over a few months, swiping your card (in various amounts) and having the money go into your bank account to pay it back to meet minimum spends for these bonuses?

why does it seem everyone on FT talks in code?

if you want to keep it a secret, keep it a secret.

don't make me waste my time googling "card readers" and "shaped card readers". It is inherent in my nature to do so. Please help me by stop talking in code.

Thank you

There's nothing stopping you from doing this. It will work, but why would you want to pay 2.75% when there are cheaper options out there? (or even free options)?

Stoughton Jul 28, 2011 5:07 pm

It'll work just fine and would make for a nice method of last resort. I doubt they'd even care that you were doing it as they get their % regardless

I've ordered one just to have set aside should I ever need it for just that purpose.

Because 0.0275 cents per mile is below the market rate.

You could buy them directly from the airline for less than that.

LongviewTX Jul 28, 2011 6:18 pm

If you're willing to pay around 3 cent per mile why make things so complicated? Paypal money to yourself funding transaction with a credit card is much less hassle IMHO

I'd also imagine it is against their ToS.

From what I've read, they hold anything over $1k for up to 30 days. Their rate isn't that low - 2.75%

It seems too be steered toward low use situations. If you need to do more than $1k, there's better options.
