Ok, just thought of something but maybe you guys know this and I am just a bit late here.

I see people waiting to apply for cards because banks won't allow 2, 3, 4 card applications going through in a short period of time. BUT. How about this.

I just applied for chase BA card and mkany suggested not to apply for CO chase card just yet. Well....

What if I apply for the CO card for my mother ... once she gets the card, 2-3 weeks later I'd put my name on the card as well as an authorized user and get those miles? I just want to make sure I don't miss that offer.

another scenario is .... she'll apply for continental card now and get 50K miles. I'll apply 65 days later and get my 50K miles. THEN .... simply call her card and put my name ON the card. Now I got 100K miles?????

Just my opinion, but if you need to have a parent get the CC to get you the points you're going too far.

No, aside from being unethical, the miles only go to the person's account who signed up fir the card. I am pretty sure the names have to match. I am sure you could try putting your FF# on your mom's account, but would not be surprised to have it caught by the airline.

Setting yourself up as authorized user on her Continental CC will just allow you to use it. The miles still sit in her FF account and there is a cost to transfer. If your mom has no use for miles, she may permit you to use them. But they can't be transfered to your account (for most FF programs) without a cost.

I think all of your questions could be consolidated into ONE thread...

Can a flight be booked with 2 FF#s? So when I call Continental, and I need 100K miles to fly to and from, I give them 2 FF# and fly??? Even though these 2 FF#s are under 2 diff names???

I think you're a little wrong rather than a little late.

It's not whose name is on the card a month later that gets the miles! It's the frequent flyer number that was provided at the time of the application (which had to match the name on the frequent flyer account at the time of the application). Any name changes after you get the card don't change what FFP account gets the miles, because you can't change the frequent flyer account number that a card is linked to, even if you can change the name.

And authorized users are additional users. They not only don't get bonus miles, they don't get miles from the purchases. The registered primary owner of the card (through the account number that was linked when the card was applied for) does.

Are you sure, in fact, that you can even change the name on an existing credit card? I would think that might require the card to be reissued, under a new credit card account number? Which would yet again invalidate it for any bonus mles.

Remember, just as the credit card is linked to a particular person's frequent flier number for earning purposes, it's also linked to a particular person's SSN for credit monitoring purposes. You can't change the name from one person to another without changing the SSN to the new person, which probably requires a whole new credit check and is eesentially a new card application.

That's why the ability to add auhtorized users exists: It's for those cases where you want an additional name on the list of people who can use the card, but you want to keep the original name and SSN (so that you don't have to reissue / reapply for the card).

You really need to start searching on here and elsewhere and doing your homework. Or read one of the other threads you have created or posted in where you asked this exact same question and people have answered it for you already.

Cliff notes on the answer: use FF#1 to book the flight to where you want to go. Use FF#2 to to book the flight back. (really the owners of those FF accounts will probably have to call in and book those one way tickets for whoever is flying but yes you can use your FF miles to book tickets for someone else.

No! Again, it's linked! You make the reservation under a particuloar FF#, if you're using miles. You don't make the reservation and then apply miles, you start with logging into the account (or, on the phone, providing the account number to the agent first, at which point they essentially "log in" to your account), and then making the reservation from there. You thus cannot use any miles from another account in the reservation.

The airlines know this, and so they allow people to "transfer" miles from one person to another. Except, of couse, there's a very high fee for that (it costs 50% of what it costs to buy miles outright).

The only exception is if an airline (such as BA) has a concept of "family accounts". Then, if, say, a husband and wife each got the BA 100k bonus, they can pool that and use that for one award. But I am not offhand aware of any other ailrines that have "family accounts" the way BA does (that have big signup bonuses, at least).

kts262 ....... I appreciate you answering me but my question was .... can ONE flight .... so if a flight one way is 52K miles. I have 40K available and my friend has 30K he can spare, can I have 2 FF#s pay for 1 flight.

If your mom's really old you could inherit the points, maybe not too far out. Make sure it's in her will.

Many programs let you transfer points from one account to another, but generally the fee to do it is too much to make it worthwhile.

ok thank you guys. So the only way to benefit here is to have 1 FF# pay per one way and another one pay for another way. Still good for me.

As others have said, no you can't do that. One person can transfer miles to another to get the miles you would need but there is usually a pretty hefty fee to do that.

The reason I am giving you a hard time is that these are all questions that could easily be answered by doing a bit of research on your part instead of just asking people for everything. The whole "teach a man to fish..." thing.
