I think the CSR was saying that the offer the poster had originally signed up for was the non-5894 code. The 75K point in $500 spend is the 5894 offer.

Thanks. I re-read it and saw where I misunderstood.

OK, I took the plunge and got an instant approval.

I have a SPG already so I can go forward to request the bump up right away or better wait till tomorrow?

Thanks a lot for all the info!

I didn't have much luck getting them to apply the promo before I activated my card; but once I activated, I was able to get them to do it. But as always, YMMV.

Success

A Big Thanks to the thread and in particular, Swat16 and ianturner for their generosity of sharing!

I sent the request last night a few hours after rec'd the instant approval and the AMEX email which came almost immediately after the approval by the way. I sent the request thru my SPG account - MR - Point Balance.

This morning I saw a positive reply from the overseas csr, very similar to the one ianturner got:

Hello Happy,

I understand your concern here.

Considering that you are a valued Cardmember, I have documented your account with information which will help you receive an additional 50,000 once you meet the spend threshold of $500.00 within first 3 months.

Once you reach the spend threshold, please write back to receive an additional 50,000 points. The remaining 25,000 points will be issued automatically by the system.

I hope this information will cheer you up!

Have an excellent day ahead!

Sincerely, Shaxxx Rxxx Email Servicing Team American Express Interactive Services

Hey! What exactly are you all saying in your message? I want to make sure I say the right thing. Also, I got instant approval but I have to wait on the card I'm guessing, since I can't message them without any type of account with them.

here was mine
Hi,
I was recently approved for an Amex Gold card ending in XXXXX. When I applied, I applied for the 25k bonus points offer. I would like to have offer # 5894 matched which was 75k membership rewards points for $500 in purchases in the first three months. So please adder offer 5894 to my account. Thank you

This should be interesting.. and convoluted.

- Applied through 50K + 2 years waived Columbia
- Switched to 10K
- Wrote to match Columia offer
- Was approved on both 50k + 2 years waived, but told to write back when points posted
- Points just posted & now I wrote back to be matched to 75K

Would be a huge win to get 75k and the 2 years waived...

Smile A little assisting here and there here

Greetings. A good brother I know expressed that I should start out with AmEx Gold or Platinum and gradually work my way up with my pretty pennies. Will either card provide me with private spending/buying? Been searching online [the websites] but to no satisfaction. Are paper applications [initially] available at the AmEx gold card level?

Hope this isn't a stupid question, I'm pretty new to this who FT world. Thanks ahead of time for the help!

All it saves, is the one year fee. Unless I am missing something, can't see where the "huge win" coming from. Any step in this convoluted chain can go wrong and net you nothing - especially the Columbia offer is now scrutinized - many of us here certainly are not in the age group of typical MBA Grads.

It does not worth all the hassle to me, but of course YMMV.
