Nope. Just told them there was a 75,000 point offer out there and I felt screwed since I applied only a few days prior for a 10K signon. That was all I had to say. When I first told customer service they pretty much told me, "too bad." I then called back and asked directly for membership rewards.
This is a good data point. I'm interested if it worked for anyone else. I'll gladly apply for whatever Gold offer I can find online if I can call and convert it to the 75K MR offer.

I went through the same process as Blitzu yesterday [I had just applied for the card with a 10,000 point bonus] and I was turned down twice for the 75000 points which included talking directly to Membership Rewards. It was explained that the 75000 was only for first time American Express card members.
After reading Blitzu's post I tried again today and I was told after a long wait that I should call after the first 10,000 points have been credited and then they will manually add 65,000 more to bring it to 75,000. I was told it was noted in my file and I got the name and location of the AMEX rep.
Many thanks to this thread and the posters.

Last week I applied for the 25K point/$1000 offer and just activated my card last night, before seeing this thread. I just got off the phone with memership rewards (1-800-AXP-EARN (1-800-297-3276) and say "representative" when prompted), explained I had just applied/activated and was disappointed to see this other offer for new card members and asked if I could switch. She said certainly, "we want to make sure you get the better offer," and asked me to explain what I saw and what I had applied for. She then said she needed to get the offer info, if I received an email or letter, and I just said, "Uhhhh, a bonus offer number?" "Yeah" "5894" "Great, let me update your account, please hold." She came back and said she added 50,000 immediately and then I would get the other 25,000 when I made $1000 purchases in the first 3 mths (per the original offer I applied for).
She was more than gracious and seemed pleased to give me the better offer.
thanks OP! (now I wonder if I can get my DH to apply to this somehow!)

Interesting. I've tried twice now with 2 different csr's and they told me no dice. "Whatever bonus offer you sign up for you are bound to. There is nothing we can do". I expressed my sincere disappointment, and got "sorry to hear that".
I'm not feeling the love for Amex right now.

So maybe if someone has the name and extension # of the CSR they spoke to in order to get upgraded from 10k to 75k then that would work? It seems like not all CSRs are so generous.

Thank you Blitzu! It worked like a charm. As suggested above, DO NOT talk to Applications Customer Service. Instead speak with Membership Rewards. My Membership Rewards Agent asked for my existing credit card numbers, and she could not find the offer, but said it was not a problem. She noted my account that they would manually process the additional points once I reached $500 in spend. She transferred me over to the Applications Department to finish processing my application which was for the 10K gold premier rewards card. I should be able to spend $500 in a couple of weeks, and will call back Membership Rewards to get the additional 65K miles they promised. Will post the results.

aap, I'm glad it worked! I'm still really impressed with membership rewards doing what they can to keep customers happy.
