Follow-up on my experience...

I received my 75,000 point bonus today. Applied under the 25k bonus link, received the card and was approved for the better bonus via secure message on 5/3. Hit the required spend the same week and the 25k bonus paid out this week. I replied to the original secure message referencing the approval and the points were issued within 5 min.

Thank you FT!

Has anyone used this new code yet
Just want to know what experiences people have had with this newer code.
Thinking of applying for this and getting the 25k + 50k bonus bump up but not sure if its worthwhile using the older codes as some post seem to suggest 50/50 results on bumping up the rewards.
Feel free to PM me or post.
Thanks

Therefore, my conclusion is that the CSR's might only be aware of one of these offers (5894) and seem to be assuming all 75K inquiries are linked to this specific code. I've sent a reply and I'm hoping they'll be able to rectify this and give me the bonus with the newer code. I'll keep you guys posted.

***UPDATE 6/8/2011***
They sent me the exact same denial message but replaced the offer ID. It seems like people have had more success calling in, so I shall do that next.

Sorry, but I'm a little confused. I too was thinking of trying to get the 75k deal but not really sure if the deal is still on as it seems everyones experiences are all over the map. And just which code is the best to use,
the 5894,
the 5985
or the latest 5970

I like to thank members of FT for providing a great forum.

Cheers

Wow, you are really trying to push it to the max. I would've been happy with the bonus miles and 1st year free^
Since others have mention that CS records and notes everything, perhaps its best to just settle with all you have already gained and stay under their radar--IMO

Alternatively, just ask for the offer by the terms: "75k MR points after $500 spend with 1st year fee waived". If you happen to get a smart and friendly CSR, they'll look up the bonus offer code for you.

This could be a big sticking point as sometimes trying to find one that is helpful could be hard to come by. Never had Amex card so can't compare but had applied for other cards in the past and tried to bump up the miles. Often the response is if you don't have the code (they don't look anything up as it's assume you should have it as it is targeted) then whatever application you originally applied for is the one you are stuck with. What's worse is if they noted this in your acct then any future calls will also get denied as they will read the notes. This had happened to me in the past. So best to have at least a promo code in hand to be sure--my POV.

So I guess the original question stands. Which is the best code to use???

Does AmEx have a limit on the number of their cards for which you can apply? I gather Citi and Chase restrict the number of applications within a given time frame, anything similar on AmEx? And does it matter if they are charge or credit cards?

If you're specifically talking about which one offers the best terms and conditions, I would go for 5894. It may also offer the best chance for you to get approved, as many people on this thread seem to have had success. I've only seen one or two replies on this forum with success using the other codes.

Once I get my card, i will also be trying to get 5894 applied to my account, since I got denied for 5985 via Secure Message.

Following up on my previous post about offer 5894 - I sent a secure message yesterday asking for an expedited posting of my MR points since I had met the $500 spending requirement and paid off my account. This morning received a reply granting my request and confirmed that a deposit of 65,000 MR points was posted to my account. For those who have confirmed 5894 (or some other code), it seems (from my perspective) that you can request an expedited posting of points to your account once you pay your account...

I'd also recommend as long as you know the code has already been applied to your account NOT referencing the code itself in the e-mail asking for the 65k. Far better to keep it vague while encouraging them to read the notes.

Reason being I think a lot of the foreign CSR's automatically see the "5894" or whatever, and send a ding thinking your asking for it to e applied, without bothering to read that this has already been determined.

I referenced 5894 because I didn't want to seem like I was asking for miles I may not have been entitled to. If I'm specific about the offer code, it takes out the guess-work for the CSR, e.g. "is this guy really entitled to another 65,000 miles? what's he talking about?" I also told the CSR in the message that I had previously talked to another CSR who had confirmed my eligibility for the offer and had marked it in the notes, etc etc.

I can see you point, however. Don't want to give anything away, especially if it means they'll double check or reconsider whether to apply 5894. I'm my case I was pretty confident that the code had been marked on my account, so I wasn't afraid to explain my situation and focus on the request for expedited points. in the end, though, even if the code wasn't actually marked on my account, it wouldn't have mattered whether I mention the code or not, since they won't just give away 65,000 points without explanation / justification....right??

On 05/20 I applied for the 25K offer. On 05/13 I noticed the 50K offer on FT and called MR. I got a CSR and told her how I just got this offer and could I be changed to it. She said that was not a problem. I said I should have given you code 5894 since it was for 75K bonus points (laughing). She said well let's use that and get you your 75K points. She then volunteered to call in four weeks (today) to make sure I got my points. I then asked for her supervisor so I say what a great job she did.

Well she called today and left me a voice and told me to call MR and ask a CSR to review the notes in my account. I called and the CSR said 85K bonus points have been credited to your account!! Now with the other points I have and BA's 50% transfer offer I'm going to buy 80K points for $2,000 and get two F tickets on CX to HKG!!!!!!!
