Thanks.
The first mention of code 5985 (75K for $1000) showed up in this thread yesterday. I thought the original code (5894) was for 75K for $500. Not sure from where the new code came.

Are both for first timers? Anything for non-first timers?

I think the original ID worked for either existing or new members, see e.g.:

If you are an existing Amex cardholder, call first and talk to MR Customer Service BEFORE applying.

If you are new to Amex, looks you have no choice, but to apply first and find someone helpful in MR Customer Service afterwards.

That link shows s/he was an Amex member. When i said first time member, I meant charge card for Amex Premier Rewards which I have had in the past.

Has anyone received the following message before?

Thank you lrluis. We have received your application for the Premier Rewards Gold Card. We were not able to process your application within 60 seconds in order to provide you with an instant decision. Once your application is processed, we will notify you of your application status by e-mail using the e-mail address you provided.

Thank you for choosing American Express.
Maybe it was a mistake for me applying so late in the evening, but I want to meet the spending requirements as soon as possible.

Just don't know. I sent a secure message asking about getting this offer or the Business one and was told:

Dear IkeEsq,

While we appreciate your interest in the offer you mentioned, please understand that this is an offer only for new Cardmembers

I understand that this may be disappointing to you, but because many of our offers are targeted to specific types of Cardmember, you can expect to see various promotions throughout the year for which you may be eligible. Our intent is to provide offers that will appeal to various interests and different types of people.

We continue to appreciate you as a Cardmember, and we strive to demonstrate this by providing the superior level of service that you deserve.

Sincerely, US-Based Manager, Email Servicing Team American Express Interactive Services
And I have never had a rewards card from AmEx, only an HHonors card, which I still have. Can't say that I feel like they care about me as a customer. I may try again or apply and see if someone whose wife didn't just leave him will be more amenable.

The new code (75K for $1000) came from a frequent flyer blog, if I remember correctly.

A little help!

I've been following this thread for a few weeks now and watching most of you have access at bumping the bonus to 75,000 MR points.

Is it still possible to apply for a MR Gold card w/1st year fee waived for 25,000 MR points, and get the bump the bonus?
Or is this primarily just for those that applied within the last couple months already and got the card. I want to take advantage of that 50% bonus transfer to BA by July 31 if I can!

Regarding the 50k Columbia promotion, it seems that Amex has created an alternative offer code, 5970, to take care of non-Columbia grads, i.e. all of FT, who applied under that. At least that's what a CSR just told me. So if the 75k does not work, try this one instead. It should get you 50k at the very least.

I had success with mine around a month ago, but with hubby's I also tried twice within a few days emailing and got same person { what are chances of that!!} decline twice. I'm still going to have him call in. He says he will, if I coach him! Friends were able to get the 25000 points with only 500 spend, instead of 1000, even though the terms said 1000 spend. They were also declined for the extra 50000 points.
