Actually, they can be transferred indirectly, but 75k amex points will net you significantly less AA miles: http://www.webflyer.com/programs/mileage_converter/

I phoned the # and said I thought I was under the 75K promo ID. American rep took 3 minutes and came back and said that was only for 1st time cardholders, that I had a Delta card, and only could get 25K.
