Lifehacker.com Eight Best FF Programs

Looks like Lifehacker.com is discussing/recommending FF programs.

Discuss!

Yikes- I stopped reading after the first one was Southwest Rapid Rewards 2.0!

Hummm...fishy alright. AND no nod to FT? Please, this article lacks all credibility!

They found something notable about the Delta Skymiles program...

AAdvantage

"To reach the lowest Gold status tier, you'll ned 25,000 miles, but as user onenotesam pointed out, this is the only FF program where your miles earned from any source can get you elite status"

Anyone else think they should stop putting random people's comments in the actual article without checking the validity? It is kind of true, although not the way they said it. It is I believe the only program where any miles earned count towards lifetime elite status, but not your yearly elite status. If it counted towards yearly elite status I would be EXP every year...

Agreed- while I generally find Lifehacker articles to be interesting, they totally bungled this one. Clearly the writer doesn't have a grip on how these things work. I'm actually going to write to her to give a heads up.

I'm surprised to see them featuring an article based on a poll. In the FF world the most popular doesn't = the best. Although maybe we should keep that tidbit to ourselves @:-)@:-)

+1.

What a bad article all-around. How many phone calls will AA get from people who earned 25,000 partner miles wondering where their Gold card is?

Ridiculous that they don't clarify this.

M&M...come on.

I have absolutely no doubt that 90% of the members of FlyerTalk could have written a more informed article. Really!

localtraveler Mar 21, 2011 11:52 pm

The article also doesn't mention that UA and CO are undergoing merger, and the two programs have become interchangeable.

I don't know why any of the program briefs mention redeeming for merchandise, as we all know those are terrible deals.

It would have been much better off in a table format, itemizing redemption ability, earning ability, etc.

Many of the comments, like most online article comments, are far off-base as well...

Weak.

Lets see... write a cheesy opening, copy a PR-provided paragraph from each of the airlines that Americans may have heard of (with the notable exception of US!), then put a "vote for your favorite" box to excite the social networking clones. It probably took the writer five minutes to phone this one in.

Seriously, though, I've never visited Lifehacker.com until now. This drivel pretty much cements that I won't be back.

It's very sad that the author probably just googled 'frequent flyer programs' and wrote a mediocre paragraph about each program without doing any further research.

freqflyercoll Mar 22, 2011 2:10 am

not only is that article not informative...it just got a bunch of extra hits because it was posted here...doh.

I guess next time we should just copy the text so we don't generate traffic for a poorly written work.

I've visited it a handful of times before...its niche is (was?) little technology hacks and tips that were occasionally useful in everyday life. For that, it does better. Little ways to organize yourself or your electronic gadgets better...that kind of thing.

Like most non-travel media (and even some travel media), when they try to tackle FF programs they fail spectacularly. It's a shame that reporters would even attempt to imitate the genius found on this board. No wait, it's not a shame at all: it's actually quite entertaining. :p
