Do you know for sure that's $ for $ on the GC? Someone posted that you take a xx% "hit" on them. Anyone know for sure?

I recently browsed the rewards site as a cardmember and saw 1 cent-per-point redemptions at major retailers including amazon.

We could probably wait and apply these miles to the DiscoverAmerica promos.

Let me correct you, if you are trying to get a statement credit for lets say 100k point that would only give u $500 credit. Now if u want to apply 100k points towards a previous purchase of lets say a cruise of $1400. U will get $1000 credit because u are redeeming the points for travel instead of redeeming it for cash.

Does that make sense?

I know this because i have used this in the past with Captial One World MasterCard.

So, a statement credit, using 100K miles/points, would amount to a $500 credit? Also, if you asked them to send you a check for the 100K miles/points you would get a check for $500?

This is good to know. But the non-travel related G.C. is .01 per mile/point? Just like a credit against travel expenses charged on the card?

I got a friend to log into his account. I saw the amazon gift card but it was $10 for 1000 pts and you can do 10 max.

Hmmm... That seems to conflict with the information given by a CSR as relayed in this post:

[CSR] is saying that as long as the charge can be completely covered by the miles, you are ok. if it can not, you can not reimburse partial charge and pay for the rest...

I just booked a room using PC points & cash for a Holiday Inn (thinking I could use Cap One points for the cash portion). Unfortunately the charge posted in the "Other" category. Anyone ever had luck getting CS to switch the category and make it eligible?

If it says HOLIDAY INN-HOTEL or something like that, then u can call and have them change it....per CSR i spoke to about this re: US AIR purchase of miles.

It says Priority Club Points (Which I guess makes sense since I'm buying the points and then instantly redeeming them, I'll give the CSR a shout and see what happens

for those of use who don't fly all that much and don't stay in hotels: if I use $1100 for gas and some gift cards, isn't it the best deal. If I don't need it for travel I can't find a way to get more than $1100 value.

https://nohasslerewards.capitalone.com/Default.aspx click on Redeem if you already have an account.

Example, 25,000 points = $250 Macy*s Gift card.
Apple Ipad for 109,000 points.

dh

even though one could argue that the ipad is --with cash--worth less than the travel value of 110k points, I think it's such a hot item that it may be worthy! My wife was just talking about wanting one and she said to me, "well what can you do with your miles right now to just get us one of those?" Well, darlin, there ya go! lol

That said, my only experience with Cap1 was a few years ago when my boss used his card's points to pay the bill back for a trip he took. Seemed he paid for his flight with what worked out to be the right amount of cash for what it was had he booked it with cash. So Cap1 points seemed right.

I do not know enough of what's what yet. Plus. I feel I have to wait til I actually HAVE the points still!

Get 11 hundred dollars worth of Target gift cards. Buy the top of the line IPAD for $599. You still have $501 worth of gift cards left.

Uhhh, it's not hard to argue that $1100 is worth more than $500. Even if you couldn't use the C1 points for gift cards cards at 1 cent/point, as suggested above, it would still be dumb to use the 110k points for an iPad if you were going to book at least $1100 of travel before the C1 points expire (not sure what the rules are there) or you have to pay a lot of annual fees.
