Just got done with AA 12,500 mile offer with them. Any recent experience with "jumping" from Energy Plus ---> original provider ---> Energy Plus (w/ other airline offer; in my case United)?

The signup bonus is pretty standard at 10,000 UA miles plus 2500 for Mileage Plus cardholders, after your second month. Fine print says that the bonus miles will post 6-8 weeks later.

However, the kicker is that they are offering a fixed promo rate for the first 3 months which is actually very reasonable, actually a bit cheaper than NSTAR.

Of course, after the 3 months I fully expect them to jack up the rate. But what I'm planning to do is to cancel just after the 2 month point. Hopefully that means that by the end of the 3 month promo period that I will be back with NSTAR. The only thing I'm worried about is that the bonus miles probably wouldn't have posted by that point. However, since I would have fulfilled the terms of the offer, they should still award the miles, no?

Is there anything I'm missing here? I realize I'm getting in bed with the devil, but with a clear exit strategy, I'm thinking this should work out well. Any thoughts or feedback would be much appreciated.

The offer is available in all states served by Energy Plus: New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Illinois, Maryland, Ohio, and Texas. Just change ma in the URL to your state's code, or find the url's directly on my website below in the Other Programs I Like > Energy section.

Not working for Texas. The page comes up but gives an error code instead of the rate, and if you click sign up the offer isn't found.

Thanks. I have noted that on my website. All of the other links work.

If you or someone else is truly interested in the Texas offer, please call them to ask if it is available and let us know the results here. Thanks.

Anyone have a datapoint for the 25,000 United link in the past two to four weeks? The link is still active but not sure if anyone was successful in getting the 25K points.

Don't know about the past 4 weeks, but I received the full 25K bonus back in Feb without asking. On a RELATED note, just canceled my account after they decided it was perfectly fine to hit me with 19.8 cents per kWT last month (Coned charges 12.9c). So, no, they haven't gotten less sleazy. Get your miles, then run away. On the other hand, the manager readily issued a $60 "courtesy" refund. So, all is good, or at least decent.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't touch this deal without getting at least 20K miles. These people are tough to deal with. YMMV.

I just switched back from EnergyPlus to another ESCO after receiving the bonus. Wasn't tough to deal with at all, never even spoke with them. All I did was sign up with the new Esco and they took over the account.

25K posted in 2 months, cancelled, got caught with a third bill since I guess it was mid cycle. Just got my latest bill with the new guys and it went down from $200 to $150 month to month. The ESCO portion actually reducing by 50%.

If I'm reading your post correctly, it cost $150 more to be with EnergyPlus for the three months. I think your 25K points is worth $150, but I wouldn't pay much more than that. Would you do that for 10 or 12K points which seems to be the current offer?

The current offer still is 25K depending on the link you use. So I am wondering if I should use that link or call them. Anything below 25K miles in not worth it.

If you could post that 25K link I'd appreciate it. I only see 12.5K.

No, because they ramp the price upwards, my 3month was more like $80 3rd month bumped the kW/hr as I was running out the door.

That's not necessarily how they operate. They extended decent rates for two months, then hiked them by 70% above Con Edison for the month #3. They were very easy to deal with, though. I called, got the manager, complained, was offered partial refund and switching back to Coned. Quite painless, actually, but no, I wouldn't touch them for less than 20K bonus.
