interesting and uncommon hotel promotions ...?
 

we all know the usual double or triple point promotions. and we love them :D
but I am sure some hotels have creative ideas ... what was the most "uncommon" hotel promotion you ever heard of?

birthday promotions? welcome back promotions? well ... these are not even uncommon.

Priority Club recently offered to reimburse guests for their checked bag fee (first bag only).

Uncommon enough? ;)

Another couple of interesting promotions with IHG:

When Hilton devalued their HH points IHG ran a "Luckiest Loser" contest. They had people submit their HH statements and the person with the largest balance of HH points was considered "The Luckiest Loser". So IHG gave that person, IIRC, 1 million PC points. A bunch of runner-ups got a consolation prize (I was one of them ;))

Another promotion allowed users to "checkin" via TopGuest with their geo location. If the location was a IHG hotel you get 50 points. You didn't even have to be checking in to the hotel just "checking in" via TopGuest. (It's kinda like FourSquare)

These are both unconventional IMO. If you peruse the IHG forum here on FT you will see some other threads for contests to win points. But just about every hotel chain has some sort of lottery-type sweepstakes promotions every now an then. I mentioned the two above because they weren't really sweepstakes. People could actually earn points with their efforts instead of just a random contest.
