Question about earning miles by shopping

Now you can register your credit card with United and AA so when you go to the retail stores and make purchases then you will earn miles with them.

I know that if you want to purchase online you have to logon to either united or AA then click the link from their website to the store then you will earn mile on that airline.

But I registered my cards with both of them, if I go to the retail store and make purchases do I earn miles on both airlines then?

Thanks!

go to a store near you and try it....perhaps you will double dip until they catch on, but you might have to provide a ff # or something.....i'm sure that many of us would appreciate your research....good luck...

That's a good question. Maybe you just found an easy way to earn extra mileage points.

Interesting, both American and United are using Vesdia to administer their programs, so I would doubt you would get credit in both. Probably just the last one you registered for, but would be more than happy to be proven wrong.

Interesting. I wasn't aware American was also doing this. I just registered with United, hoping Continental will jump on board soon (I live in Houston) so I can make that switch. I'll go ahead and register with American as well and report back if I get any good news.

Very cool...I didn't know this was a feature of either program. Anyone have a link to register?

With the dining programs, which I suspect are run in much the same way, only the last registration counts. (The airlines aren't all that dumb.)

United's page is here

https://www.mileageplusshopping.com/

I was not aware American was offering it, but the same company manages their other shopping pages.

+1

This is my best guess as well. New or newer registration will override the previous one and take over.

Thanks I'm glad I saw this save me from a nasty surprise.

Can't speak about experience with the "new" United Mileage Plus shopping program/site, but there are only a few merchants with that the AAdvantage E-Shopping site awards miles for in-store purchases:

https://www.aadvantageeshopping.com/in-stores.aspx
https://www.aadvantageeshopping.com/...alechannelid=4

And if you're new to the AAdvantage EShopping site, there are many threads on FT how they are not consistant with awarding miles for purchases:

I registered thru the UA one first. This presented a message once I logged into my UA acct and joined. This message welcoming me to the new UA MP shopping and it said I would get 250 extra miles if I signed up to receive emails and stay opted in for 30 days. I then got an email confirming I'm registered and I also entered several cards including my UA Visa.

For the AA one, it seems one just needs to already be a member of the AAdvantage mall and you can then see that one of the ways to earn miles includes shopping in retail stores. The list, as we know, is a small one and it's actually stores I may never really go to, but it's good to know this gig exists.

I saw this article as well: http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...-84964292.html

Thanks OP for posting this. I gather one could do a split transaction to earn many a mile?
