Were I ever a prospective deportee, I would say something along the lines of what I tell my employers and clients: "When I want to go somewhere, I pay for it. When you want me to go somewhere, you pay for it."

I guess most countries need to and do pay for the deportation since the deportees are usually in a state when they cannot afford it or claim not to be able to afford it..

I wonder if some states would allow to substitute lethal injection with an LAX-SYD flight in coach on UA or if that would be considered cruel and unusual punishment? You don't even get to request a last meal, before you die in the cramped conditions.

There are ways to earn miles online. If it can be done, it will be. If a prisoner has access to the internet, it can be done. I wonder if they do have access to the internet (in their cells?). What a way to profitably while away the time... And once free, what a way to disappear. Or at least not have to go back to where you came from.

In 2006, John Mark Karr, was deported from Thailand to the U.S. after he confessed to murdering JonBenet Ramsey in Boulder, CO (1996). He was escorted by investigators working with the Boulder police. They flew Biz class and according to the news reports at the time he himself did not pay for the ticket. I never saw any report mentioning FF miles earned or not earned. There was a lot of flack in the news, however, about flying biz class.

If he did get miles I wonder if he had any difficulty keeping them after he started sex reassignment surgery and started living as a woman? It's probably the same procedure whenever someone changes their name but this case makes me wonder how this works with the TSA. Recently the airlines started confirming full name, DOB, and gender. But that subject is probably best for another thread.
