FRA to KOA

We live in Germany and are currently booked on LH to travel FRA-SFO then SFO-KOA the 18th/26th of December. The cancellation fee is reasonable if I find another option.

We have LH Miles & More mileage accounts for each of us but any Star Alliance would give us miles I believe. I just flew US Airways FRA/PHX/DEN/FRA last week and they did put my LH number on there.

I have about 150k Alaska Air miles but they are useless for this flight, besides the fact that there are 3 of us. My hubby has probably 50k AkAir miles as does my son. I have tried to figure out how to use these maybe on AA or something but not having any luck........any suggestions?

Actually I just checked our Alaska Air miles
me 150,219
hubby 59, 398
our son 45, 456

What I am wondering is, do any of you think there is a better airline to look into for this flight? It is going to be MISERABLE in coach for that long of a flight, I am such a baby. I hated the 330Airbus that UsAirways had us on last week so am glad we won't be on one of those for the flight.

I have been considering getting a 4th seat (3 of us traveling) so that we can have the whole 4 seat row. We did this when we came here ATL/FRA but this flight will be much longer.

I would love to find business/first for a reasonable rate but that does not look promising. That is what I would rather do really but I am not sure if there are ones that I could use maybe half pay half miles and utilize the Alaska Air miles?

Well, you're looking for 3 people, and it's holiday season, so that's not promising. You might want to consider United and pay some extra for Economy Plus Access, which is 5 inches more of legroom.

I'd recommend you apply for a credit card to get some more miles, but that won't work if you're in Germany.

I hope you have at least an overnight layover in SFO; that would break up the flight and it's a nice city to visit.

There are flights on Alaska from SJC and OAK to KOA on Alaska. They are both early morning flights so you could fly from Germany into SFO and then connect the next morning on Alaska from either SJC or OAK, but I am sure availability will be tough during holiday season for award ticks.
