I, too, transferred SPG points to AA miles during AA's 35% bonus promo. Transferred 60,000, got the normal 15,000 SPG bonus, plus 26,250 AA bonus. My 60,000 points became 101,250 miles.

The "why" is I'm taking my nephews to Africa next year, and need a TON of miles, so I've been looking for every promotion I can find.

miles and more to HH

I have arond 16K Miles & More miles from LH that I am hoping to transfer to Hilton Honors. I can see the chart for HH to LH (Miles and more) but can't find any specifics on how to do it the other way around. Any other suggestions/potential use for those LH miles? Just keep them around, perhaps? ....

Thanks!

i have a lot of airline points with 9w....more than i can use....they keep expiring but unfortunately i don't have an option to shift them to another program....

on the other hand i'm thinking of moving over some miles from spg to aa for some upcoming flights in october....

I've done so many times, but they break out to only three circumstances (and one situation sorta beyond my control):

1. I *love* Starwood (SPG) points! They are truly the "stem cells" of the points and miles world, since you can convert them into so many programs. I have used Starpoints on a couple of occasions to "top off" an account in another program, in order to get an award. Indeed, by doing a triangular trade (long ago), I managed to turn SPG points into HHonors points by converting them to Delta SkyMiles in order to have enough SkyMiles to do a special redemption to HHonors points (but that's not an efficient use of Starpoints if done as a regular thing).

2. I have often redeemed Marriott Rewards points for travel packages that include 7 nights plus between 50K and 120K miles in a frequent flyer program (it was AA, which no longer participates, drat!). You paid a rate of one Marriott Rewards point per airline mile, and since if you worked it right you could get 20 Marriott Rewards points per dollar spent with Marriott, that meant 20 airline miles per dollar spent -- for those miles, at least.

3. Starwood has a similar "nights + flights" redemption program, where you can get a 5-night stay at certain classes of hotels plus 50K miles for much less than the total for an award of 50K miles and one for 5 nights. Again, in connection with an award stay I was planning anyway, I'd frequently take the special award to get the 50K miles at a reduced rate.

4. The "sorta beyond my control" transfer came when TWA was absorbed by American, and I had the option of having my hundreds of thousands of TWA Aviators miles converted to AA miles, or letting them evaporate. I chose AA, and those program miles (including miles already redeemed in the Aviators program) counted toward my Million Miler status with AA.

Recently transferred 120k MR into 67500 AA under the recent AA 35% promo.
Reason - I crunched the numbers and figured the points were more valuable to me in AA.

I transferred 51,000 American Express MR points to ANA. I picked ANA as non-US based airlines do not incur a tax when doing the transfer. Also the ratio was 1:1.

I discussed transferring miles in my blog post: http://boardingarea.com/blogs/unroad...trading-miles/

1. A couple of years ago, got the Amex Gold as part of a promotion (first year free) plus 50K Amex MR points after first purchase. Transferred points to HHonors and a couple of airline partners. (Please send me another one of those offers, Amex :D)

2. Have used HA's ability to transfer miles in at no charge allow me have a de facto "family account" that way (a la the way bmi now lets you combine all family points into the "Head of Household's" account). Have then transferred HA to HHonors as needed/desired.

3. Have also used points.com every so often, but the transfer ratios are just silly.

I love the SPG points. Generally transfer 20k blocks to get the 5K bonus miles.

I did the 40k SPG to AA transfer to get the additional 35% bonus special.

In the past, I've transferred AMEX MR to Continental to keep the account active and also to ANA when needing miles to top up for flight awards.

A number of 235k Marriott Rewards points into 120k AA miles plus certificate for 7 nightstay in up to 5* Marriott Hotel.

Got my 2MM Lifetime Platinum elite on AA quite a lot faster this way. :D

Latest one I looked up the farthest Marriott 5* hotel, and they have a number of them in Hong Kong, one of which I had stayed in before and is excellently placed for multiple public transport means, so I did that. Scheduled the return flight back really late (with short layover in YRV) so I got an extra day around the city. Also, due to adverse headwinds on the way there (JFK-HKG), the plane was routed by the most Easterly of the four transit routes, which flew East of North Pole, thus scoring my second RTW! ^

(shame that that is no longer available, as Marriott and AA have not renewed their sharing relationship this year)
