Surprise news for me -- I applied for this offer a few weeks ago and was denied for too many recent applications (I was approved for BA and UA cards in 2/10 and 4/10; I also have three other Chase cards). I didn't bother calling to discuss because I have had so many other approvals over the last 8 months (SPG Pers and Biz, Citi Pers and Biz, Premier Gold, Penfed). I just wrote it off and figured it was time to slow down.

I was reviewing my Chase accounts online last night and there was a new Continental OnePass account listed! I spoke with a CSR this morning and the card is in the mail. I asked the CSR if there were any signup promotions included with the new account and she listed off the 25K+5K+$50.

Woohoo!!

Hi there, trying to get in under the wire. So, need to open a OnePass account and then apply. For online application it says you have to be signed in as a OnePass member.
Do you get a OnePass number instantly upon signing up for OnePass?

My other option: I will be in a couple of hours in an airport near a CO desk, so I could pick up a OnePass FF form there, which I believe has a temporary member card with a OnePass number on it.

Answer: Found out that OnePass # is issued instantly, which then can be used for CC application. Application was accepted, so today/last day of CO, offer is still up!

Reconsideration Success

Applied for the card and received the dreaded pending review message. Called Chase to ask about the application status. Was told it was rejected due to too many inquiries in the past year.

I held my ground and made a good case for reconsideration. I also offered to cancel my British Airways card if they transfer the credit limit over to this new card (I planned to cancel anyway due to the upcoming annual fee next month). The rep then approved my application and closed the BA account.

If your application is declined, don't give up! Speak to a reconsideration specialist or write a letter.

Anyone have any info regarding whether or not this offer will still be available through October (and beyond)?

EDIT: I just read in the CO 25K checking promo thread that Chase will no longer be offering the CO debit card as of Oct 1st so this makes me think that the credit card offer also stands a pretty good chance of being yanked at month end...

Nonetheless, any info or thoughts are welcome!

i realize that my comment does not have much to do with this offer other than data points about this card and its future.

i called to talk to CSR today for a few reasons and point blank asked about the cards going away, being merged with the UA card etc. i was assured that there was nothing in the works  but the cards were not disappearing tomorrow (1 Oct) and nothing was going to make card usage change for a while.

he then went on to say that the things that are coming should make existing card holders happy. (grain of salt IMO) i have both the UA and the CO card and am not sure i want some of the existing perks to go away.

YMMV

Woohoo for data points:

Decided I didn't want to run the risk of them pulling this offer so I just applied online. Unfortunately I received the "your application must be reviewed further" message. I went and ate dinner and called them 45 minutes later and the rep told me that I "had been recommended for approval with a credit line of $X" but the application required further review by the computer...I don't know why a computer would require more time to make a decision...if it was a human taking a look at the application that would make more sense but he specifically said it was a computer doing the review...lol

Anyways I asked him if I was pretty likely to be approved if the account was being "recommended" at this stage and he said yes barring anything really unusual.

I also asked him if he had any insights into the card changing or the offer going away in the near future and he said as far as he knew the card and the offer weren't going anywhere anytime soon. Hopefully this helps some of you make a decision on applying.

Let's hope it stays for a while. I hate losing easy miles.

I too got denied a month ago due to too many apps. They offered to cancel the UA card but I had only had it 4 months. Did not want to chance losing 50K to get 30K. The 6 month mark will be in late Oct. then that card is fair game.

I am closing in on the BA $30K so I need to keep that too.

Getting a few AA cards and an AMEX lately did not help.

The slew of LARGE bonuses was great but my credit need a breather.

To appear stronger, I have been dropping my limits on my cards. I have no balances so it doesn't hurt the ratio but has less outstanding available credit which helps.

I just applied for the new Chase Hyatt Visa, and after getting the stupid "need more time to review" message, I called the CSR line listed in this thread. Apparently, I have to cancel the card I just applied for to get the Continental card.

Approvals

:):)

My wife and I applied online on the 30th. As our title says we were both approved. She has an existing BA visa from last november and an amazon.com card from May. I had cancelled my exisiting chase accounts months ago as they did not fit into our needs.

Curiously, my college student children who have Chase/Continental bank accounts received snail mail invites for this card yesterday. They were wondering if they should apply. I was concerned about the way Chase views income. Their income is very small from p/t jobs and summer work. I explained that they were able to get their AA cards more easily by using total household income which Citi allows. Additionally, I told them to wait to see if Chase offers another huge miles bonus such as last novembers BA Visa.

Thanks FT for the initial heads up and discussion on this card.

Just had a CO/Chase card banner ad popping up as I moved to the AA forum. Apparently it's still alive and kicking!

Unfortunately, the Chase application asks if you have been DENIED by Chase for any credit card in the last 6 months.

I hope someone has some data that shows that if you are denied because of too many pulls that you can apply again before the 6 months is up (but 6 months after your last approved card).

It is possible that after the CO-UA merger they will come up with even a better promo.

I was denied in early May for the same basic reason and then re-applied and was approved in late September, so not quite 6 months. More than 6 months since last Chase approval.

Come to think of it, I didn't see the "if you've been denied within 6 months" checkbox this last time. Maybe no longer asking?

straightahead Oct 4, 2010 1:15 am

Just signed up for both the wife and myself - quick and instant approval.

I was concerned that cancelling my Chase BA card (up for renewal) might cause me a denial, but both got approved - YEAH!!

HoKo Oct 4, 2010 9:49 am

So I called into the lending department to inquire about the status of my application and was informed that I was denied due to having opened the UA 50k Visa back in April.

I asked if I could allocate some of my UA credit line to this card and keep both cards but the CSR said my only option was to close the UA if I wanted the CO. I asked how long I had to weigh my options and he said 30 days from the date of application. I opened my UA card on 4/13/10 so I'm just going to wait till mid Oct. and then call back and allow them to close the UA card.

The question I have is: Has anybody ever had issues with Chase revoking bonuses past the 6 month timeframe or is 6 months truly the golden number and I should be free and clear once I hit that milestone?

Chuckles Oct 4, 2010 6:19 pm

HoKo;

I also got the United 50k card back in April, and it is still open. I applied and was accepted for the CO card this weekend. So the rep was blowing smoke up your skirt.

Everything I have ever heard or read says 6 months is the magic number for Chase cards. You are safe to close after this time period.
