Qantas and AAdvantage
Hi,
So Qantas is telling me I could get 15 000 FF from my LAX-SYD flight next month and since they're one world partners with AA, I could get those points on my AAdvantage account and all that, except when I do try to do that, it keeps telling me ''Account invalid''. How am I supposed to join your highly self-entitled bunch if I can't even bank the points? Or is there another AA frequent flyer program out there that I am not aware of and there is making my still noob ... very very noobish? |

I'm in ''Manage your booking'' and I selected american airlines as the FF program :/
I booked premium economy at 1250$ each way. IDK what that would translate to on aa.com since all the fares on there are 4-5 times what they are on qantas.com... but in the fare details, it says ''•Points and Status Credits may be earned on this fare. Classed as Premium Economy when Status Credits are earned on this fare.'' |

One thing to note is unless you are buying the expenisve economy tickets or better, you generally do not earn AAdvantage miles,

Would you get more miles by depositing them in an Alaska account?

i looked at the qantas earning rules on aadvantage....it shows that mi's & pts are earned on econ+....hope you get this resolved.....
btw, the trip would satisfy a plat challenge.....good luck... edit to add....aa says mi/pt for fare classes W,T,R in prem econ....checked out qf site, looked at the sale fares which you got, fine print says you get mi's on the fare but doesn't mention partners....in the past, there were $999 coach fares w/multi flights w/i oz + the tpac which got no mi's.... unless there is something amiss on your aa #, i give up... ps....this is a heck of a deal! |
I don't know why you have this problem but I have been to Australia 4 times in the last couple of years and I've never had any issue with earning AA miles/points on QF flights. You put the AA number in with your reservation just like you would on AA.com... no difference. Which version of Qantas website are you using to book your ticket? I think only the US/Canada website will accept AA numbers. The Australia version of the website may reject it.
The worst case scenario here is that when you check in at LAX or SFO, give your AA number to the counter agent and he or she can put it in at that time. |
When was the last time you used your AA account? If it's been more than 18 months, it may have been deactivated. Call AA to see if it's an active account.

In the rale rules, it says ''Qantas frequent flyer'' gets so many points. Maybe they really do mean only the Qantas program does get the points, and not their partners? |

Have you tried logging in to aa.com to verify that your AAdvantage number is valid?

Names have to match the ticket & AAdvantage number, maybe they finally caught you.
Tnx guys! |
Just to say I often fly on QF and post my miles to AA and the QF website has never let me enter my AAdvantage number even though there is a box saying AA etc ! So I always call and have never had a problem with QF putting it in the booking but as others have said just double check at check-in!
