If you have enough points, why not do both? Book a Nights & Flights award to convert 40K points into 75K US miles while booking a 5-night hotel stay for just 20K (Cat3) or 30K points (Cat4) -- a savings of 10K points. The hotel portion can be rescheduled or canceled/redeposited if you don't use it.

Thanks for the nights and flights tip.. Unfortunately I am a few pts shy of the 60k mark to take advantage of it. I actually have more like 48k currently. I am thinking of transferring about 25k into US Air and leaving the rest in my account for some potential hotel stays this fall when we go to CA.
I use my Amex SPG Card for everything, so I am sure I will replenish these fairly quickly and could probably afford to transfer all of the pts.. but don't want to be left short when I am ready to book our hotel stay for the fall. I currently have about 120k US Air miles in my account, but the husband and I want to go to Europe this spring in Envoy and use them for that.. I hate the idea of having the miles sit there and taking a chance they change the terms or go out of business.. But I will take that chance since it sounds like this is a nearly unbeatable promo (I spent close to 1k to get those miles last month during the sharing promo). |
Please note if you book on US Air metal award they charge you $75 per ticket booking fee if you are less than 14 days before your flight. This is waived for Chairman members..prior it was waived for Platinum and Chairman.

Can you indicate where the 10K savings comes from? The way I am reading this, you pay 60,000 SPG points for 40,000 airline miles (plus the normal 25% bonus) and if you redeposit the 5 night stay you get 20,000 points back. Seems like the benefit only kicks in if you use the 5 night stay since 20,000 points for a five night Cat 3 stay is a good deal.

I just love these rhetorical questions.... :D
But, anyway, I'll rephrase: Has AA ever had one? |

Not sure what's rhetorical about that - it's a real question, question mark and all. I'm trying to find out from experienced users if AA ever has promos like this. I'm not asking for specific info about if/when/where/how one is coming.
But, anyway, I'll rephrase: Has AA ever had one? Anyone know what the max number of SPG that can be transferred and take advantage of this offer? thanks |

What is the quickest that someone had been able to convert SPG over to US Air miles? Do all the bonus miles post at the same time as the regular miles? Thanks |

Only you can really decide the value of hotels vs. air miles. I will say that star often provides availability when other miles have nothing available. That was the case with our greece trip this summer. DL and AA miles got me no where so it was good that I had star.
I will also say that I can not believe how bad US is at booking tickets. I just booked the simplest award and it was so much hassle. I just wanted to fly a simple roundtrip between newark and houston on continental. I had everything possible go wrong. Agents insisting that CO flight was not available even though it was. Dropped calls after 20 minutes. After 30 minutes agent tells me that computer is down and I need to ticket it. Then agent goes to ticket on next call then tells me my CC is not going through. 20 minutes on hold later they come back and tell me that it was a problem on there end and they have fixed it. In all it took me 5 calls and over 2 hours to book a RT from EWR-IAH. So much hassle I am not sure its worth it. |

Is it worthwhile for me to transfer SPG to USAIR currently, or save them for use at hotels during an upcoming vacation? I know under normal circumstances you guys would recommend leaving them for hotel stays at a 1:1 transfer, but with this 50% bonus, is it worth topping up my usair miles instead?
