i was told by the categoring manager at a marriott nearby that its only 3 points per dollar spent at events hosted at marriott to max of 50K points. oh well, that sucks...
Here's an example of one of our thoughts regarding our wedding next June: We thought about flowers.com but ultimately decided we could get some nice vases and do the flowers ourselves for much less. |
I'm assuming with a figure of 30K for a wedding reception that you're probably going to have some Champagne served at the reception.
While I personally haven't done this, you could earn a buckoo amount of frequent flyer miles if you order Champagne using a promotion with FTD, or 1800-Flowers. It would certainly be an easy way to rack up the miles when either of the sites offers a promotion for 25 miles/dollar spent. Of course, you have to be in a state that allows shipments of wine, and of course, shop around with local wine shops to ensure that you're not overpaying simply for the sake of miles when purchasing Champagne. Just a thought. |
The Hotel cards are great, we racked up a lot on Marriott doing a reception there, enough to cover us in Maui for the trip.
Also, you may want to "flip" Citibank AA cards in parallel and dot he $750 spend to get 30K bonus points per card. |

I just booked our reception at the Westin in Chicago. I was able to negotiate the following: i) upfront double starpoints based on my food and beverage minimum of $31K (62k starpoints for free upfront) ii) 5k starpoints signing bonus and iii) 5k starpoints for every 10 guestrooms associated with the weddings.
On top of that, i'll be paying with my SPG amex for all of the charges (which i expect to be around $40k and get an additional 40k spg points there). Additionally, i was able to negotiate their quotes down 15%, which was unexpected but a welcome surprise. |
