Which program will survive the UA Continental merger?

I am a Continental OnePass Gold and have no status on UA. I was a 1K for many years, but don;t fly them often.

Anyone know or have thoughts on what will happen to status and possible combined miles?

being discussed in both UA and CO forums:

United:

Continental:

The general thinking in the UA forum appears to be that MP will survive; redeemable miles will just combine; elite structure will follow UA, with CO Silver = UA 2P, Gold = 1P, and Plat = 1K; following integration year, Plats will need 100k EQM to requal for 1K (ie, 75k tier goes away); nobody knows about lifetime miles, which are calced differently (CO = EQMs, UA = butt in seat).

Blind leading the blind...

So here am I, who have never flown either UA or CO, being asked for advice from a friend in the same boat! She has always flown AA from STL, but is about to fly CO for the first time. Before the merger was announced, she thought she might fly UA sometime, so signed up with them. NOW what should I tell her? Get a CO account instead?

Nah, just have her credit her CO flight to her UA account. Better to have what meager miles she has consolidated in one place. Easier to keep track of and reduces the risk of losing miles during program consolidation (not that I expect that to happen, personally - the losing of miles, that is).

Thanks! She will appreciate the reassurance.

As there are active threads already in play (thanks to goblueto for linking them), I'll retire the subject here in MilesBuzz.
