AA status match help
 

Hi I am currently a gold with Delta and continental.
I would like to get AA to status match so I can get some perks on an upcoming international itinerary that is on AA. Ideally I would like lounge access for myself and my girlfriend (both on same itinerary) in Europe.

no dice sorry. search miles buzz for "status match new master thread". aa offer a challenge to get you up to status in short time but don't match

Otherwise, get an Amex Plat Charge Card and that will get you in.

I agree. AA is usually not too eager to hand out status matches. I would suggest a day pass to at least get lounge access.

AA essentially never gives out status matches. When they do, it's to very big spenders. For the rest of us, they offer "Challenges" as a fast track to status based on 90 days of flying. More info on them in this thread in the AA forum, though I doubt they'd be of much use to you.

The suggestions to get a one-day Admiral's Club pass are surely meant well, but they won't do you and your GF much good in Europe. There are only two on the entire continent, at LHR and CDG, and you have to be departing from there.

If you have time, I'd look into credit cards like Diners Club and AmEx Platinum that giv airport lounge access. Of those, DC is by far the easier to get. (The only AmEx card that works is real AmEx Platinum, not the platinum-colored and platinum-branded AmEx-issued cards affiliated with Delta, Hilton, etc., etc. If it doesn't have an annual fee well up in three figures, it's the wrong AmEx Platinum card.)

Three, actually. FRA is the other, and a quite nice though not large lounge. Big shower.

I can attest personally to their unwillingness to match status. I was 1P on UA and called and told them my company would like me to fly AA, but I was unwilling to unless I had some status in the airline. So, if they would give me status, I would book several international flights with them that minute, otherwise I was going back to UA. There was no budge, only thing offered was the challenge mentioned above (which cost $160 I believe).

I later found out that AA had an agreement with my employer to match status up to Platinum. ^ If you work for a large corporation, it's worth looking into.

DC hasn't issued any new personal cards (as opposed to corporate cards through your employer) for a few years.
