Best practice to make the most of airline alliance

Pick 1 airline ffp each of the 3 airline alliances. For any travel within the alliance members, use the ffp of the chosen airline.

This is the best practice?

Cheers!

Welcome to FT, rajivraj.

Your idea is correct. You could also apply for memberships of the other airline ff programs, just in case you'll have chance to fly them or collect miles from them through a certain promotions.

Just make sure because sometimes ex. if you fly on AA and you try to transfer it to your Qantas you will only get 1/2 the miles on your Qantas account

Unless you travel a whole lot, you're likely to end up with your miles spread over three programs that way. In most parts of the world it's possible to focus on one main alliance, using a secondary one for when the main one doesn't suit. That's likely to work out better.
