Bottom Line on BA

So I see all this buzz about the great BA deal... Do I really have to plow though 156 pages of posts to the jist of this situation? May I respectfully request that the moderator refer me to some sort of summary?

Don't mean to be inappropriately aggressive about this. I'm just say'n...

Maybe there's some sort of summary system out there (on this and other really popular issues) that people can refer to without reading every post from the past three months...

Thanks in advance...

What kind of summary do you need?
For the 100K bonus miles on Chase card, the summary is in post #1 of the thread. OP has been keeping it updated frequently. Actually, the last updated date is TODAY.
For BA redemption, have you read any sticky in the BAEC forum?

I'm sure the community would be very appreciative of a summary you provided as your contribution to the community.

It's a forum. A popular forum. That's what happens. Lots of educated and intelligent comments. What's important to you may not be important to anyone else. What is popular with you may not be popular with anyone else. If something is worth having then you have to put the effort in. If you can't put the effort in yourself then don't ask someone else to do it.

Here's a summary;

The deal is dead.

Slightly more detail.

It was great while it lasted, 100k miles for a $75 fee and $2k spend.

I understand what the OP is saying. Unlike other "deal" threads such as the Coins and Citicard, the BA thread co-mingles the credit card deal (the 100,000 miles) with the BA redemption rules (BA fuel surcharge vs. one partner awards vs. Oneworld, etc...). Many posters just can't keep comments to the deal itself and ask redundant questions that would be easily found, if searched for, on the BA redemption thread.

For example, the Citicard thread doesn't go on and on with posts such as, "Can I redeem AA miles on BA, How many miles does it take to..., where can I go on AA miles ?"

Similarly, when, say, Priority Club, has a promo, the promo thread generally isn't inundated with newbies asking, "Where could I stay with PC points, etc..."

Bottom line - give OP a break and put the blame on the complexity of the BA 100,000 mile thread on the "inappropriate" posts contained therein.

jackmcc1,

Besides reading the first post on the first page, the best way to keep current is to also read the last 5 or 6 pages of the thread. You'll find some up-to-date information.

Welcome to Flyertalk.

As the OP of the thread in question ( http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles...hase-visa.html), I have attempted to keep the info current and summarize the process based on the experiences that FTers have posted. If anyone would like to add to that summary, they are welcome to PM me and I'll gladly add their contribution.

There is no doubt that the thread has become unwieldy, and I did attempt, early on, to limit the discussion to the offer at hand, and not redemption on BA, which is discussed elsewhere. Obviously, that request went unheeded. Add to that a lot of newbies (of which I was one, not very long ago) who have been attracted by the offer and have posted questions that have already been asked and answered many times and the thread has ballooned.

Unfortunately, the deal appears to be dead and this discussion is moot.

j3brooklyn's summary pages gives the bottom line. The deal is dead, but many people have tried to make a dead cat bounce (and maybe it did). Anyway, let's wait and see if it comes back from the dead (again). In the meantime, I'm waiting for his and hers BA Chase cards to arrive in the mail.

Although the deal is dead for now, the bottom line on the long thread is that it is a good deal, but it can cost money to use BA miles (so it may not be worth it for coach BA tickets if you are flying from the US east coast to Europe) or it can be a pain in the butt to convert them to American Airlines (AA) award flights or something else (at least if you don't know how to call BA and get them to help you) and you can't use BA miles for AA transatlantic flights due to a special antitrust issue (but you can use the miles on AA anywhere else, including South America). Also, if two people in your household get the cards, then you can combine points using a household account, but there are pros and cons to this as well. Here's my real bottom line: spending 30k on the card for the companion award ticket combined with a club world or first class BA award is the best way to maximize the value of the deal. There may be some more nuggets, but from reading the thread off and on, those are the key points.

In spite of the drawbacks, it's a really good deal... good enough that no self-respecting FTer should think twice before taking the plunge.

Thanks!

Thanks for the comments.

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

We try to keep threads clean here, meaning we stay on topic in one thread. You are new and I can see the temptation to want to get a quick reward. I have been here for a while and I still try to read the entire thread. The reason is that you can learn how people research and test out different methods. It's good to learn the process too because it can be applicable to other promotions.

You might try reading the first 5 pages, and then the last 5 pages. If you catch a certain "keyword" that requires more learning, then do a search on that term within the thread.

As for this deal, you never know, it might be resurrected, but you just have to go check out that thread frequently as the followers of that thread will post updates to that thread.

No. Did you even read the first post in the original thread?
