TD Ameritrade offer
I am going to be depositing 50k plus into a td ameritrade account and there is an offer for 25 000 miles on the big 5.
I am out of New York and prefer JFK as it has the airtrain. I have an amex platinum so I get the into the lounges and really like that. I work a lot on the computer so I arrive 2-3 hours early and have no problem with a similar layover if there is a lounge. I have been earning miles on delta and a little on american. Prefer delta for the free drinks. Visit PCB on a annual basis. But maybe achieving lifetime over many years would be a good idea. DO other airlines match that on a year to year basis? I like Continental as it has free drinks and good flights into mexico and a lounge in las vegas. Downside is Newark is the hub. United and US airways do not interest me. The main question is where is it best to get 25 000 miles? |

I would be depositing 50 k + either way but I guess gong thewoods option would allow me to decide at a later time which ffp to deposit into. Any platinums want to refer me so that I get gold status if the program is not offer?
thanks |

I'm doing the same thing, and I'm doing Starwood.
I got an email today telling me that if I start with $25K or more, they'll add $100. I had already sent in my $25K - it should be there this week. So am I getting my Starwood 20K points AND $100? |

TDA account still good even though you have an IRA
I looked at all the offers at TDA too and decided on the Starwood option.
I also got $250 for moving an IRA there last fall, and now get to do the same thing with a personal account. I have verified this with the local contact--that you ARE allowed to have an existing IRA AND then open a personal account and get the Starwood points. The $100 I see above just adds some frosting on the cake! BTW, I assume Starwood does not match these points...? Nah, that would be TOO good!! Jim |
I think it is the $100 and free trades for a month or the miles/points. I opened an IRA for the free trades but less than 25k so I will open a 401k to get the $100 and a regular trading account for the points. I was told they can all be combined to use the free trading for a month. Over 100k is $250.

Sort of tired of the 25k sitting in the TD account earning nothing.
Next 10k starpoints due to post next month - will they really charge for the starpoints if I withdraw after the final 10k post? (ie they require keep in account 9 months, I'd keep for 7 months)? |
Just do what josephstern did, and you'll get what you want!...( by the way, your single? )

In fact, I think I'll be asking this same question, soon enough. |
