Looking for advice
 

New to the Forum. I only fly once or twice a year for training, so I dont rack up much in the way of miles there. I have a Delta Amex so got the 25K miles there.

Looking for ways to get the most FF miles as soon as possible otherwise. Need to start taking trips without spending on the airfare.:-:

Also, what type of jobs do most of you have where you are traveling so much and racking up miles?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Quickly, credit cards are a big factor. Look through the forums.
* The British Airlines card, if you qualify. 100K miles is quite a lot.
* Other credit card offers are the best for the buck, though you're limited by your credit score.
* Debit card offers aren't as lucrative, but are also pretty good, particularly for American.

If you're just interested in miles and trips for cheap, and not worried about one particular airline, you can take advantage of the super promos. They pop up from time to time. The idea is not to accumulate flying miles, but buy them for less than 1 cent.
This month, US Airways effectively lets you buy miles at about 0.75 cents per mile. This makes business class to Europe, 100K miles, under $800.
I'm sure there will be others.

Thanks for the comments. I looked through the sites. The presidential coin thing sounds interesting too. Not sure what my banker would think of me coming in with a dolly of coins still rolled up. .

I like the BA credit card, I plan to do it after we buy our house in mid January. If it is still around that is. I dont want to go and have 5 or 10 cards and try to divy out spending across the board. Seems extreme lengths to go for adding 500-1000 miles per month. Maybe it is just me.

Where do I find the promos you are talking about regarding buying the miles for under a cent?

This is a web site where many of us don't care what others think, to include our SOs, who think we have lost our minds.

We are used to having people look at us funny.

Like my seat make earlier this year when as we were leaving BOS she asked where I was going and I said BOS.

or FAs being perplexed as to why why are returning to our city of origin on the very next flight.

Or the CA at BOS asking why I was flying to FRA via LAX and ORD.

You should have seen the look on my UA ca when I checked in at SAN going to MEL via SFO BOS LAX SYD and returning the very next day.

So let's say I am taking a trip, how do I get to go on these multiple segments for the same price as a regular fair? Is there a special way to figure this out without paying alot of money? I understand the value there with racking up some FF miles, but more so for the segment qualifiers.

I guess I dont see how you can get 100K miles for less than a cent. I went to their site and it averaged out to $0.025 per mile. Any help in clearing this up would be great. Thanks.

Read some of the threads and stickies in the Mileage Run Deals and Mileage Run Discussions forums. You'll learn a lot about reading fare rules to find creative routings to maximize miles.

A good tool to help find good bade fares is Farecompare's Flyertalk Fares page (Google that), which sorts fares based on their CPM (though you can eke more out with creative routings, of course).

Thanks. The site detailed some good deals and noted miles attained for the various routes. I used to work over in the S. Pacific and have nearly a quarter million miles with Qantas. Lost what I had left a couple of years ago. Looking to see what kind of work is out there detailing high travel demands. Any ideas?
