It's a bit confusing, but it actually seems like they're aiming for Jan 15th at the moment. Like they won't let you book new tickets between then and Feb 28th, but they also won't rebook you or refund your money if you already have tickets for that time period. You're in limbo.

So I think that officially canceling those February flights would be the next indicator to watch for.

Unless you know how close they were to delivery of the planes, it's hard to judge when the strike would need to end.

http://www.betterbidding.com / http://www.biddingfortravel.com

both show up good rates for hotels in melbourne and sydney - ie the marriott sydney goes cheap.

then u would bid on http://www.priceline.com know what hotels go for.

Alternative, is to go to website like http://www.expedia.com http://www.travel.com.au http://www.zuji.com.au but i'd just go and book with the hotel direct ie http://www.hilton.com

A few websites are good for lastminute (ie 30 days before travel) so u could consider closer to the date, namely:

http://www.wotif.com / http://www.needitnow.com.au / http://www.ratestogo.com

Internal flights I already said earlier, try

http://www.virginblue.com.au
http://www.qantas.com.au
http://www.jetstar.com.au
http://www.tigerairways.com.au

Welcome to FlyerTalk and congratulations on the discounted airfare to Australia.

In other news, there are 2 Crowne Plazas in Australia presently on Point Break offer (buy points @ $55 / nt.) Crowne Plaza Hotel PELICAN WATERS GOLF RESORT & SPA and Crowne Plaza Hotel TORQUAY.

Still no confirmation email for me nor cc charge, but the reservation is still showing on checkmytrip.com for my summer trip.

Thanks for the welcome. This site is great. I stumbled upon it through a series of blog links on a travel info search. Looking forward to being in a position to contribute to the board.

Me too! I was feeling confident that it would be honored, but it's nice to get the confirmation. We had to book SYD-BNE-LAX on the way back, so we'll be looking into adding a stopover for a few days in BNE, a city that I love.

Perhaps the union vote in the affirmative may add certainty of aircraft delivery:

Ditto ^ Now I have to decide when to surprise DH I also have to call about the stop over -- hopefully there's no rush to do that.

Yeah, I was VERY shocked to receive that email confirmation today. I was pretty sure I had the flight at this point, given that they charged my card, but I figured that email was just lost and I'd need to call up and get them to resend it.

Is their phone line dead? I always get it to ring twice (with the double ring tone in AU) and then it seems to go dead (but it does not hang up).

The number I dialed is 1-800-444-0260.

Ditto... I am glad I was able to see checkmytrip.com for the res instead of waiting 4 days. Fingers still crossed for EQM earning on some partner carrier and for a points break hotel special.

Also, if people figure out how to get the "free" stopovers or a cheap way to do so it might be fun to check out some more of the country. If not I am very happy with a sub $500 trip to the land down under.

I called for a seat assignment... it double ran for a little while but it was answered. (the CSR may have had his headset on mute)
