Having a stopover works or the fare in general works?

Loooooong ago, an underground AC fare that ignored the MPM was available for YYZ-SYD. As long as no more than one connection was made in the same city, multiple ocean crossings were possible. For instance YYZ-HKG-YVR-SYD was possible, as well as a booking crossing to Europe, doubling back to YVR, then off to SYD.

I've tried both of these options with EWR-MEX, but with no luck. But, with the right combination, it should be possible.

Couldn't be that long ago since AC hasn't been flying to SYD that long...

ORD-YVR-GRU-EZE-MEX

the yvr-gru connects in YYZ.
You can book the EZE-MEX leg the next day (give yourself a night in Buenos Aires )

You can book some of segs on AA & LAN, if you need a few OW miles with your *A run

Is South America the only place to pop into this fare? Is HNL/LIH/OGG/etc possible? Anywhere else? Just curious.

The Destination, MEX in this case, is the key.

You can try HNL, etc on the way, then continue onto MEX.

And don't forget to report here with your success.

could be a great way to join the Cow Do over Labor Day weekend, for one night in EZE.

The steak & malbec would be worth it
