Because you can extend the expiration date by spending miles as well as by earning them, you might be well served to cash in a very small amount of miles on a magazine subscription through Magazines for Miles, instead of spending $$ on an MR. Some magazine redemptions are as cheap as 400 miles, and earn you the same expiration extension as flying would.

The miles for my last two magazine redemptions were deducted from my account on the same day, but those were on US and NW (the only two recent enough for me to check online). Surprised that you are having such difficulties with a rental car posting -- my last account maintenance activity on DL was a Hertz rental in June, which posted in 11 days.

Folks, I hate to be persnickity
....but read the guidelines I put up-I've seen a bunch of requests for 20k+ miles, which would take hours to do, since you have to do several runs to get that much. The most I've been able to crank out of a single run has been about 10,300 (wweinhart's, which he can post when he's ticketed....its pretty impressive, if I do say so).

You can do LAX-MSP on NW for $166 ai., available on 12/10 and 12/11 but with a whole day at the Mall of America (outbound red-eye, return pm). Yields over 3000 EQM.
