Assistance Requested - AA MR from DTW
Any help would be appreciated.
I am looking to create a MR from DTW on AA. I need about 15k miles to requal for next year. My initial attempts look like a flight from DTW to ORD to LAX and then back through to DUB. It really doesn't matter where the run is though. This looks like it would be running 898USD. I am looking to travel between Dec 7 and Dec 20. I prefer over a weekend. Thanks |

Thanks for the tip.
I had some ideas already but I was looking for some tips at fine tuning it and an opinion if the fares I found were relatively good. I went on a MR last year based on an itinerary someone posted and it worked well. I saw that I should avoid Q fares on the transatlantic portion and the fares I found were S. The fare I found for 15,300 base miles was 902.60 It goes from DTW to DFW to LAX to LHR one night there and then back. The issue I see is that it requires a 7 hour layover in DFW on the return. If my memory serves that AC closes until 6am. If anybody has any suggestions on improving my plan they would be welcome. Thanks |
new idea
I did some more checking and it looks like I could build this for 975. Total base miles of 15,968.
My read ofthe AA website indicates that s class on BA earns 25% for miles. DTW-DFW 986 DFW-LAX 1235 LAX-MIA 2342 MIA-BOS 1258 BOS-LHR 3265 LHR-BUD 928 on BA = 25% BUD-FRA 521 on Mag FRA-DFW 5143 DFW-DTW 986 Does this look like something that is worth it? Thanks  |
Well, you're sitting at about 6 cents a mile, which is pretty ok. Not great by MR standards, but you're kind of in a "beggars can't be chosers" situation, and I don't think you'll be able to come up with too much better.
As for your 7 hours in DFW, if it's overnight, the couches in the Junior Flyer's Club are pretty alright to sleep on. |
Thanks for the feedback Smailtronic.
I have not been a poster but have been a reader of the board for awhile. Milecalc had it at 4.7 once you add in the bonuses. It makes more sense for my colleague who is plat. At that price it is near the limit of what I would consider. My wife saw the itinerary and was not really pleased. |

My wife has a different opinion but she is biased since she has to stay home with the little ones.
I reworked the run with ITA and now have 18,000 base miles over a 4 day period including a night in FRA for around 967 before using the 5% discount in the Entertainment book. As far as the value of the status, it is worth it to board and not have to be pushed around by the GA at DTW A18 who seems to really enjoy that whole class thing. |
