Need help with AA segment run from TUS

Ok, I tried posting a thread looking for tips to do this myself, but that failed. Now I'll just ask for help instead.

My situation: I need ~4800 Q-points to make plt, and am hoping to complete it in one day (or get very close). I will be starting in TUS, so I have a 2-hour time loss on the way to DFW that will eat up part of my usable day.

I started with the first TUS-DFW of the day (5:00a starting Sept 6, so I picked Sept 15) and have been trying to craft an itinerary from there. Where I am getting stuck is trying to get one more city out of it. I can build the following:

TUS-DFW-OKC (5:00a-9:05a & 10:15a-11:10a)
OKC-DFW-SAT (11:55a-12:55p & 2:00p-3:05p)
SAT-DFW-AUS (3:50p-4:55p & 6:05p-7:00p)
and I can see this in the timetable, but it won't offer it in the multi-city search:
AUS-DFW-TUS (7:50p-8:50p & 10:10p-10:15p)

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I've spent a few hours trying to get the extra city, but at this point I think I may be doing something wrong.

Otherwise, any tips on other good ways to get my 4800 points quickly?

Looks as though part of the issue is that the 10:10pm flight you were looking at does not operate on Saturdays.

A suggestion:

You will be hard pressed to make enough flights for 4800 QPts in one day. I have done similar runs by flying to AUS the night before and just sleeping in the airport to be there for the first flight out. That should allow you to be back in TUS the next night.

Also, don't forget about DAL.

I can't believe I missed that the flight isn't on Sat. I may go that route to stay overnight in AUS. I am trying to find a way to get there for work, which would make it easier. I probably wouldn't sleep in the airport though, I don't mind a quick mattress run if I can find something cheap.

I am trying to get points for a challenge, so depending on the fare bucket that might work. And less risk of delays messing up the whole run. I'll try pulling that route up this evening to check on the fare class and points rate for it.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm learning that I have a ways to go to get good at MRs. Next year I will be looking to do more to maintain my Plt, so I will definitely keep tracking the threads in here.

Yeah TUS is a tough town to do mileage runs out of for one-day runs. You should definately go for it though. I've had to do about 40K miles on US Air this year and will now depart hours earlier to avoid that airline.

Another thing you might want to look at is they will likely post some deals to Europe in Nov/Dec which you should be able to get for ~ $600. That would yield you ~ 12K EQM and/or 6K EQP.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I thought about that, esp for a nice ski trip. However, my challenge is started, and my goal is to get plt to increase the odds of some vips clearing in october. If I fail, I will get the points on that flight.

2 people from TUS???? Wow, there must be a number of FTers here, then. I know Old Gold and ..... um.... that NW guy ;) are both here.

About your plight, remember you can use Alaska Airlines to SEA and go from there.

Or, as you have WN and US status, maybe do a short hop on one of those to get somewhere and switch to AA.

Actually at least three, I am in TUS almost as much as ORD. Would be interested if you (Viajero) are planning any MR seminars soon.

How about a MR coffee chat? ;)

Post in Community next time you're around--- I'd enjoy meeting all of the TUS FTers in person now that I'm new in town.

thats a pretty good idea, though I have yet to try it. AA code shares with AS out of PHX and I've used that SEA connection on many runs to the east coast.

Looks like I'll have to watch the Community forum for a TUS event.

If I'm not mistaken, the AS leg wouldn't help for my challenge. Good to know for future runs, but for now I think I am going to try for a 2 day run in TX. Mayby fly out in the afternoon to AUS as suggested above, then hop around TX a bit and come back the next afternoon. I will post my final itin when I figure it out.

And I'm also in for a TUS event, though I don't watch community often. I will see if my browser can handle another tab.

If the AS segments are purchased as AA codeshares, then they are most definitely valid for the challenge. The only requirement for the challenge is that the flights must be AA-marketed (irrespective of the metal).

Wow I am surprised so see so many FT for AA in Tus. I just moved from Tus and have to fly 16K in US air and another 54 K in United. I try to fly to Bos in AA via DFW or ORD to get miles. Also flying to India

BOS- Bom
Bom-LHR
LHR-ORD
ORD-DFW
DFW- TUS

all this to collect relevant files to keep status.
