MR rerouting due to bumps

I have a hypothetical question. If you are on an MR and have a bump opportunity that would result in you missing your turn, is it likely that you would be able to get the VBD plus a reroute back to your origin? How about success with writing in to get original routing credit?

What would you do in a situation like this?

don't know about the comps for missed miles but if the bumps are being offered to be higher than the fare I paid (and those would earn miles when used) I might just jump on it.

Last year I answered a call for volunteers and I found that the next available flight would land me at my turnaround point too late to make the turnaround. I explained the mileage run purpose of my trip to the helpful gate agent who offered to change my return schedule to make it all work. The result was even better than the routing I had originally purchased. You never know. Good things happen.

Thanks for the sympathy!

In reality, however, the 49,861 was my combined miles on all carriers, and doesn't count bonuses for sub-500 mile flights.

I always accept the bump. Let the GA re-route me on a competing airline alliance, change my return as necessary and route my outbound onto another airline alliance, and then get double miles once I claim original mileage credit from the 1st airline alliance while enjoying the extra miles earned on the other airline alliance.

It certainly helps if you walk up to the counter knowing exactly what you want, other airline flight availability, and preferred routing. If you can't reroute elsewhere, do not fret. Whatever is > your modified routing or the original routing credit will be what you receive.
