Uh oh. Take a look at section 2.2, article 4.1. It says that "Should you change your itinerary or dates of travel, this may impact the fare to be paid." (emphasis mine) It looks like we're SOL as far as itin changes go without repricing. Unless there's some other provision that makes an exception for this, which it doesn't look like there is. So even if a date change is possible, they can hit us with the fare difference. This is why, while technically allowed, date changes aren't allowed, unless of course you want to pay an extra 2800 USD.

I never ever bought a business class ticket that was not allowed to change dates!
US Airways changed the rules on their First Class tickets that would not allow date changes as well. Never had one of those before either, but hey - to me the real prize is they are honouring the tickets. I only ever book what I can fly, no great loss to me if they don't allow changes. I am thankful they are honouring the tickets, regardless of whether or not we can extend stopovers, do date changes etc.

NUTS!!! That was what I was afraid of. Well, I guess time will tell when these rare mistake fares will be even rarer... or non existent with this service.

P.S. Heathrowguy, thanks for the post here. Perhaps you could place this in the Farecompare Mysteries thread as well. I'm sure your post will get buried in a couple of hours.

But the fare rules are what cover this. The fare rules say otherwise.

Not so fast, coolw12. Date changes may affect fare paid because date changes may run afoul of advance purchase requirements or day/date restrictions as contained in the fare rules.

There are no day/date restrictions or advance purchase requirements in the DRTCA9 fare rules -- either the original rules or the new rules put in place after these fares were ticketed (which thus should not apply to these fares).

Something is wrong with the audio. Whenever the journalist or the travellor say the word "about" it sounds weird.

I called Alitalia today to get seat assignments for my four tickets purchased on Cheaptickets.com. I found that one res had been cancelled, which was the fourth ticket I had purchased that early Wednesday morning... must have been within the time that the cancellations took place. But I still have 3 res ticketed and with seat assignments issued by Alitalia. My question now is have they performed a service on this ticket? I know this question has been batted around before.

Anyway, what I'm thinking about doing is trying to offer to cancel one confirmed trip in exchange for a date change on the other two I still have confirmed. This IS in the orignal fare rules, but I know they have changed them. When I asked Alitalia to change Anyone successful yet in getting date changes or having them stick to the origonal rules?

But the fare rules don't explictly state that a change in itin won't cause a reprice and unless I'm really mistaken, there has to be some sort of reissue or revalidation to make a date change, which means that, since the current DRTCA9 rules have the "correct" price in them, that you'll have to pay the diff. This gives AZ a lot of wiggle room, unless there's something I'm missing here.

No matter what, I wouldn't try to "bargain" with them - you have a right to every ticket you purchased, and I highly doubt that AZ would agree to such a generous arrangement anyways (would probably just cancel the ticket and leave you with the original dates on the others).

D-class sold out - I have been put in economy

My booking has been reinstated but one of the legs on Cyprus Airways is showing up in economy. I called Orbitz and they have told me that D-class on that flight is sold out. As a result, Alitalia is not willing to upgrade my class and has put me in coach. So it seems that Alitalia is making no provision for protecting D-class availability, and if D-Class is sold out by the time they reinstate your ticket, you will be flying in economy

I second your opinion. ^ There is no reason to bargain as we have D class @:-)

Have Orbitz Intl. Desk contact AZ's Service Desk to have you accomodated in D on your ticketed flight or else invol reroute you MXP-FCO-LCA with the FCO-LCA in D - then just have the ticket even-exchanged when things settle down.
