Dream Map shortcut quick reference
Everyone knows about Travelocity's Dream Maps feature, which lets you see a map of cities you can fly to for a certain range of fares. However, I found it a little irritating that it keeps defaulting to North America from Dallas for $500.
I didn't see this posted before, but you can bypass this by manually typing in specific parameters separated by ampersands. That is, the url will look like http://dps1.travelocity.com/dreamMap.ctl?option1=yourpref&option2=yourpref [...] and can be bookmarked in your browser of choice. The parameters are any of the following:dep_arp_name is the Departure City of your choice. It is easiest to use the airport code here, or you can enter the city name substituting %20 for spaces. The default is Dallas,%20TX and the more popular destinations accept many versions of names. http://dps1.travelocity.com/dreamMap.ctl?dep_arp_name=BGM will make Binghamton, NY USA your departure city. http://dps1.travelocity.com/dreamMap.ctl?dep_arp_name=Munich,%20Germany will make Munich, Germany your departure city. So will http://dps1.travelocity.com/dreamMap.ctl?dep_arp_name=München,%20Deutschland maxFare is the dollar amount of your maximum fare, defaulting to 500. The number does not have to be in multiples of 100. For instance,http://dps1.travelocity.com/dreamMap.ctl?dep_arp_name=POM&maxFare=2459 returns routes from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea for $2459 or less region is the destination region of your choice and must be one of the following:
http://dps1.travelocity.com/dreamMap.ctl?dep_arp_name=EZE ®ion=oceania&maxFare=1800 will return trips to the South Pacific from Buenos Aires, Argentina for $1800 or less search_type adjusts the "View Fares For" option.
http://dps1.travelocity.com/dreamMap.ctl?dep_arp_name=MCI &search_type=ski_w&maxFare=450 returns Hike West fares from Kansas City, MO USA for $450 or less paxCount and child_cnt are the number of passengers and number of children respectively.http://dps1.travelocity.com/dreamMap.ctl?dep_arp_name=NYC& region=europe&paxCount=3&child_cnt=2&maxFare=350 will seek rates for 3 passengers, 2 of whom are children, from any New York City airport to airports in Western Europe for under $350 per adult passenger |
Very useful summary. Thanks OP.

Now if we could get Travelocity to look at a map of America, and add South and Cental America to the destinations. I'd bet more people fly to the various countries in Latin America than Australia and South Pacific. Could have sworn that at least Central America used to be on the list, perhaps part of the Caribbean. EmailKid |
Amen on adding South and Central America.
In addition, I wish (1)that Dream Maps would show Canadian cities and Alaska from all of the U.S. (I hear that Canadian cities sometimes show up from Northern U.S. cities.) (2) that one be able to set both minimum and maximum fares. This would allow you to fine tune your searches. You can creatively use the maximum fares to eliminate some clutter, but you could force more cities by elimating both low and high priced cities. (3) that your be force a few cities to show up. For instance, BWI almost never shows up on a Dream Map centered on Houston, yet it often has good fares. Less popular destinations (such as Jackson from Houston) rarely show up, and you could force them to do so. (4) that when you click on a city on the map and a list of fares comes up, the list comes up, the list contain more information -- advance purchase, minimum stay, season, and days of travel. |
South America?
Thanks so much!!!
Does anyone know why South America is not on Dream Maps? Would anyone suggest a good site for Latin American sities? Thanks |
It seems Travelocity has changed the URLs somewhat, as when I tried to open up the bookmarks for a shortcut that sets the home airport to IAD and to pull up Europe, it comes back with an error message saying the page has changed.

Thanks OP --- This eliminates a brief annoyance every time I use Dream Maps. Very clear and accurate instructions.

Is there a way to specify Business Class fares on Dream Maps?
|
Filter by airline?
Anyone know if there's a way to filter Travelocity's Dream maps by airline? Would be quite useful for those of us chasing down the last few thousand miles towards status.
