We had a discussion about bc= a while back in the other thread. Short of it is specifies the RBD for the fare, not the actual class you're going to be booking into. As flylonghaul said you're still booking an I fare, all ~bc=y does is exclude Y fares, not fares that can book in Y.

Search for NON basic economy fare

Couldn't find the answer through search, hence the question:

How do I search for up-gradable economy (Not Basic Econ) fare?

TIA.

With AA?

If so, then ' ~B '

If so then ' ~bc=B ' will exclude B class options from the displayed results.

See post #31

Thank you.
I tried as in Post #31 . For a search on AA, if one way, it returned fare Y (which is ok). But for a search with return, it returned fare B fare (which I think is Basic for AA, which I try to avoid)!

Since I am such a novice with ITA, please explain: If so, then ' ~B '

Thanks again.

Apologies, I missed some characters.

It should have been "~bc=B"

Another good shortcut is using negation
Instead of /f bc=X|bc=Y

if you wish just to EXCLUDE cheap booking classes, you can do this:

/f ~bc=W&~bc=V&~bc=N

and then you get no W,V,N in your results

Most used by me, as those classes earn me just 50%

Specify cabin (or fare basis) in certain legs only?

Hi all,
I'm trying to book long haul, London to Singapore, Oneworld.
Getting good prices with one stopover, but need to get costs down. I dont care about first leg, but want Business class for the longer section. Any search tips or suggestions please?

Assuming r/t, no direct way to do this, but you can try using Calendar of lowest fares and the cheaper of 2 searches:
1. Search for biz outbound, coach return
LON::/ALLIANCE oneworld;+cabin 2
SIN::/ALLIANCE oneworld;+cabin 3

2. Search for coach o/b, biz return
LON::/ALLIANCE oneworld;+cabin 3
SIN::/ALLIANCE oneworld;+cabin 2

Thanks, I'll try this.
Side Q: is that format something I can paste in a single command? If so, where? I'm using the main Matrix form which means I spend hours trawling results.

The first 2 fields on this form is where you enter your outbound and return commands:

Thank you! I somehow missed that feature of the form.

Here's what it would look like, with the cheaper option being Y O/B, J return on QR

The extension code fields autopopulate after entering the one-line commands.

1. Search for biz outbound, coach return
LON::/ALLIANCE oneworld;+cabin 2
SIN::/ALLIANCE oneworld;+cabin 3
Result: 1487 GBP

2. Search for coach o/b, biz return
LON::/ALLIANCE oneworld;+cabin 3
SIN::/ALLIANCE oneworld;+cabin 2
Result: 1392 GBP
