There was no problem at all, except that the StarGold club had no BR let alone shower. However, oddly they had a machine to dry clean your clothes. Not sure how they expected folks to use it...fortunately I had on two layers and no one noticed the bottom one was basically underwear...
No security check on arrival that I recall, and no need to go through customs for transit, though there was one at the gate (which was repeated on arrival to and departure from HKG). No one asked for any explanation. I carried bottles of ice as long as they lasted (I did have medical excuse), and was easily able to get small bottles of San Pelligrino through the gate checks at HKG in my pockets, though not SIN. HGK stop was a pain, but a good exercise break, and the clubs are a lot better there.... so I didn't starve from UA's paltry excuses for nourishment.

Clearly there was at least one and possibly two other MRunners in the lounge in SIN. It was not at all comfortable for sleep. Better places out in the airport proper, and of course you could also have shopped all night... great airport. Easy MR. Not a hint of jet lag as just stayed on Chicago time. Highly recommend!

Connecting thru HKG is no longer offered on UA at least. I always liked the HKG stopover as it usually allowed time for a quick shower in the UA Club before heading on to SIN. The bag check prior to boarding was always a pain and it seems they focused mostly on policing liquids which meant no duty-free alcohol purchases. I believe it was only US carriers they did this with too which just seems silly.

I would like to fly the following trip to qualify for Flying Blue platinum by the end of 2017. It yields about 20K level miles. Positioning I do from Amsterdam on an KLM award ticket which gives me about 6h of transfer time in IST.

I realize SV is not the best airliner and their service or transfer facilities are not great. But since the price of the ticket (660eu) via OTA I don’t really care.

I have some question about the trip though:
- I looked into it and I don’t need a transit visa for both JED and CGK. I’m I correct?
- Is 2h transit time in CGK enough? I found that the flights arrive and depart in domestic terminal 3. I only travel with hand luggage.
- I don’t think there is a ST of SV lounge in CGK T3, correct?
- Are there other things I should pay attention to when booking/flying this trip?

In event this shows up in a search later on, I thought I would update to report that in Jan - Feb 2018, I ended up doing a total of 5 MR's (either SMF-LAX-GUA-SMF or PDX-SEA-LAX-GUA-LAX-PDX) and had no issues with Customs or Immigration for any of them, both GUA and LAX. Some I planned to board the same place (70 mins scheduled ground time), all went off without a hitch

Was given Forms on plane, need those filled out (everyone does)
GUA was easy, upon landing, exited gate and directed to immigration downstairs, had no luggage, went directly to agent, they took a copy of form, then stamped passport, then proceeded to the "push the button" area (common if you been to MEX or other countries) if the randomizer chose a RED, you are directed to have your bags searched, if you get GREEN you are directed out the door, either way, you leave the rest of the form with the person as you leave the area. Then exit the terminal, walk across the (thru the people waiting for relatives) to the car garage, walk up two flights of stairs, back now on the departures level of the airport, walk in and go directly to Delta counter (due to my quick turn, not able to use the kiosks) Presented passport, they reviewed and provided me boarding pass, proceeded down one level to security and immigration. I had already filled out the exit form (same as entrance) and passport stamped upon exit, walked to gate, waited a few mins (10-30 normally) and boarded with the premium group. Easy peasy.

When talking to someone the FA's on these runs (saw several more than once) I found out that typically Jan and Feb is pretty slow. Was not uncommon on several of these flights to have more than one open seat up front even after the door closed. Even more so with C+. These were all 752.

Excuse me if this has been asked but anyone have experience arriving and departing on the same aircraft at Berlin’s Tegel (TXL)? It’s Schengen to Schengen on Finnair with technically an hour as connection time. Do I need to go back through security again? Usually a bus gate? Thanks!

Singapore turnaround on a MR

Due to a dip in travel this year but an expected return to normalcy next year, I'm looking at my first real mileage run - IAH-SFO-SIN-SFO-IAH.

Landing at 6:50am and departing at 10:20pm the same day.

I'm planning to just hang out at the airport, get a little work done, and then fly back.

It has been a while since there was a posting about SIN, so I'm wondering if things are essentially the same? No need to go through immigration or security? Just deplane, head to a lounge, and then wander the airport at my leisure for 15+ hours?

Doing an MR to HKG and land at 7:50 then leave next day late AM. What to do in HKG for 15 hours overnight?

It depends what you wanna do. You can go into Kowloon Station by the airport express, wander from Element mall to Temple Street, get some food there, and then go Tsim Sha Tsui for pre-drink, then take a ferry across the Victoria Habour and go Central Lan Kwai Fong for drinks and clubbing until am (depends which day you're there though).
Get yourself a breakfast at McDonald/Starbucks, go back Lantau Island Tung Chung for the first bus 23 up the hill to see the Big Buddha, get the Ngong Ping 360 back to Tung Chung and take a bus/taxi arriving in Airport in around 30 min.
<<< this is complete non-stop 15 hours lol
