Also works on a multi-city to MEL with QF nonstop serving the AKL-MEL segment. MEL-EWR/LGA has options with UA (2 stops to LGA) or QF (1-stop to EWR)

[QUOTE=cruser1;36218816]Despite being two one-way flights, it looks like it only works Area 3 (NZ) to Area 1 (USA), not the other way around.

Thank you! And thank you for your work in general

And MEL, though only on a single daily QF flight in business or two others in economy (other options wouldn't price on either Google flights or ua.com)

Edit: Amex Travel allows booking stopovers via the NZ widebodies in business AKL-MEL

Booked and ticketed a multicity fare constructed on Google Flights, amazing value for direct AirNZ flights in and out of USA and UA Domestic First in every sector for similar prices. Thank you so much for posting!

Booked, thanks OP!

Also, FYI -- This is not gone yet. For some days Google Flights and United flexible search don't show the fare, but if you click day-by-day on united.com, some dates are still bookable.

For those on AKL-IAH, the seat map shows an ex-CX plane that isn't reconfigured so there is an F cabin available for additional cost and much better J product
