Just today got the email for one of the ~$1k USD Iberia direct tickets that it must be downgraded to Y plus 25% voucher, or fully refunded.
I understand the Chilean court case, etc and am just catching up... any recourse I have here or should I just cancel and try to get them to refund the rest of my stuff? (1 night hotel in Santiago that I booked a month after booking the flight, which seems reasonable?)

Ugh... eventually decided to cancel. Iberia refused to refund my positioning flights from Barcelona to Madrid and back, and I also have 2 nights hotel I may (or may not) be able to be refunded by Marriott...
Is there any way I can try to recoup these expenses from Iberia? Given that my ticket was cancelled 2 months after booking, I believe I have a reasonable claim that I expected to be able to travel, and I made my other bookings 1 month afterwards with my business class ticket still "live", so that story would check out

Because they downgraded me from business class to Economy obviously... I would have never chosen to fly to Santiago and back over a single weekend in Economy, including earning not enough miles as I'd planned to earn with the business class ticket for status requalification.

I, on the off chance, filed a claim via AESA in Spain and have just received a response and request for additional information. Currently not sure whether to pursue further and just move on but may be an avenue for some to also explore.

It's not random:
"Please bear in that mind check-in for flights to/from Cuba, El Salvador, United States, United Kingdom, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico and China only opens 24 hours before the departure of your flight."
https://www.iberia.com/us/checkin-information/
So it probably means that IB is blocking the possibility of online check-in for these tickets.

Got a call from a (very nice) IB staff about my flight, with the choice between a downgrade + discount or a refund + discount.
For reference:
[OT]Now I do hope some do fly it, but overall disappointed by the "spirit" of this specific thread. You win some, you lose some, that's how it used to be
(clearly IB used to have a solid track record of letting those 1k fares fly, hence the (slight) rant ^^ [/OT]
For reference:
- 1k fare in J (2 PAX)
- Flight scheduled in March 23
- Purchased directly on IB ES
- The call came from the Spanish call centre, staff was Spanish but had a solid French speaking level (I'm French)

Just another data point. 1K tickets for December, 3 pax, purchased directly from Iberia. I had a missed call from a Spanish number, presumably Iberia's customer service and later that day received an email that they wanted to offer me a choice of full refund or downgrade to Economy and since I did not responded they downgraded it. Just called them to ask for refund.
Out of curiosity - had we accepted downgrade for Economy, isn't it a case for 75% refund due to involuntary downgrade? Or am I missing something here?
Cheers

Also, if I try to select a seat, the business cabin appears available for selection but with a cost of $50 dollars for each seat selected (it shouldn't be like this as the fare is flexible business). What do you think?

I just called customer service because they also sent me an email saying that they applied the second option to me since I couldn't take their phone calls. And the person who has attended me has offered to restore my business tickets, so now I have a new email with the new E-ticket numbers (class J) but not a pdf with the new E-tickets, just the ticket number and the confirmation mail .

Congrats, how did you manage to convince them to put you back into business class?
