Another phone call from Iberia today, the 1k tickets will definitely be downgraded to economy, the only compensation they offer is a 25% discount voucher.

That's a load of bullocks, IB and other European carriers sell business tickets all the time in the 1K range to Latin America. If they said they have to downgrade to an I fare that would be more in line with their occasional offerings.

That’s exactly what I answered. Her reply was: if you want that you’ll have to go to court.

Sounds like the Iberia customer service I've come to know and loathe.

Just want to make sure I understand the text below correctly. One change is allowed with the same price, any subsequent changes would involve a massive fare difference, as there would be a new ticketing date, right?

C. BEFORE DEPARTURE OF JOURNEY WHEN THERE ARE NO
CHANGES TO THE FIRST FARE COMPONENT BUT OTHER
FARE COMPONENTS ARE CHANGED THE ITINERARY MUST BE
RE-PRICED USING HISTORICAL FARES IN EFFECT ON THE
PREVIOUS TICKETING DATE OR USING CURRENT FARES IN
EFFECT ON THE DATE THE TICKET IS REISSUED -
WHICHEVER IS LOWER.

Yes, I made a change of the inbound flight and it was free. However I tried to made another one and it asked me 10k euros to do it…
I received the call from Iberia (1k fare) but after lot of pushing and the agent asking me to wait for another call the following day, my booking was left intact (in J).

Same here, but I was told the first two calls are to give you the choice between refund and downgrade. If you insist, on keeping J, it’s just a matter of time before a third call will follow during which they won’t give a choice but just announce they downgraded you.

My ticket is MAD-SCL but I actually need to go to EZE...does anyone know if they will let me do a route change to MAD-EZE if they downgrade me to Eco?
Thanks

In my case during the second they confirmed me that I can fly in business and they won’t change my booking (it was like 10 days ago)

haha, what was the point of the call in the first place?

IB: We're gonna downgrade you
ggomtel: How about no?
IB: ok lol

hahaha not exactly, I had to push quite a bit. Probably it helped that I’m IB Platino too. My main argument is that I have flown quite a few times similar fares with them (3 times in the last year) and that I cancelled an avios booking to fly in business (to Lima, now I need to buy the tickets to go there) after purchasing this fare, but there wasn’t availability anymore to buy those tickets back.

I pushed quite a bit as well and was told they won’t change the booking for now, but certainly will downgrade to Y after a third call.

update: no third call, but got a cancelled email although I never agreed to cancel...
”Thank you for answering our call, for dedicating your time and for accepting our sincere apologies in relation to the error that occurred when charging the Business class fare on our flights between Madrid and Santiago de Chile, which caused your reservation to travel with Iberia under locator ABCDE in favour of the following passengers:

Name and surname/s:

Passenger # 1

As we have explained to you over the phone, we offered you as possible alternatives either to cancel your reservation and refund the full amount you paid for it, free of charge; or keep the reservation for the same dates and passengers but traveling in the Economy cabin.

In both cases, and with the aim of compensating you for the possible inconvenience that we may have caused you, we offered to issue you a voucher with a 25% discount that you can use in future flight reservations and purchases of services on our website iberia.com.

We thank you for choosing the cancellation and refund option for your reservation, which we have already carried out by ordering the payment of the full amount of the reservation via the same means of payment that you used when making your reservation. However, it may still take some time for said refund to be credited in your account balance, depending on the transaction settlement terms established by your card issuer and/or your own bank.

And fulfilling the commitment made to you, here we send you the discount voucher code that you can use for a new reservation on our iberia.com website:

Voucher code

Discount 25%

Validity:

 DD/MM/YYYY

(*) REMEMBER: these are the conditions applicable to the use of your discount voucher:

  • It must be used on our website iberia.com, to buy no later than 10/31/2022 (deadline to buy) to travel no later than 10/31/2023 (deadline for the last flight in the reservation).
  • Only applicable to reservations for flights operated by Iberia, Iberia Express and/or Iberia Regional Air Nostrum.
  • NOT applicable to tickets for the Madrid-Barcelona Air Shuttle (“Puente Aéreo”)
  • For round-trip tickets, origin and final destination must be the same city.
  • It can only be used once, for a single reservation, with a maximum of 9 passengers.
  • It provides a 25% discount on the price published on our general official website (iberia.com).
  • The discount IS NOT combinable with other discounts or promotions, nor is it compatible with the redemption of avios (Iberia Plus).
  • The discount IS compatible with Spanish subsidies for residents (Canary and Balearic Islands, Ceuta and Melilla) and large families

Once again, we humbly apologize for any inconvenience this incident may have caused you and we sincerely thank you for your understanding and for the trust you place in us to organize your travel plans.

Yours sincerely,

Iberia Team”
