Great fare. Booked for two people in May 2022. I was not able to get past the payment stage on AA, and ended up booking a fully flex F roundtrip fare through Priceline. Ticketed successfully, seats selected on AA website etc.
I was planning on flying the outbound leg as booked, and then calling and modifying the inbound to a later date in 2022. It should not change the price:
//CHANGES AFTER DEPARTURE//
THE ITINERARY MUST BE REPRICED USING HISTORICAL
FARES IN EFFECT ON THE PREVIOUS TICKETING DATE.
Does anyone have experience with Priceline and modifying bookings after the outbound leg? Will they be able (/competent enough) to do this? I understand there will be a $30 admin fee.

I had a few that Priceline said the fare had changed but adjusting by a day solved the issue. Couldn’t get anything to book on AA. Thanks OP, great fare!

Anyone know if this is a real complication or just something overly cautious from the US state dept?

see above as an examples, few dates left in march
make sure you force mad lhr out and lhr mad back (this is the only way it will work, ITA and google flights does not bring this routing out by default)
try and copy paste this into bookwithmatrix (select AA from dropdown for booking website at the bottom)
