The Big 3 in Latin America are all in Chapter 11: AM, LATAM and AV... Chap 11 in the USA simply allows them to reorg debts, leases etc. It's not necessarily a liquidation...

So in light of the US situation, there's not much XP optimizing to be done, right? You can only transit through CDG to get 2 segments in and 2 outbound. To go through MTY, there's only the option to fly with AM (AM ticketed)

You can do on a AF-KLM ticket, AMS-CDG-MEX(AF operated)-GDL rt/ for about the same price if you want 114 XP each ways instead of 102 XP. I think that this should work for other destinations in Mexico.
228XP on a 1100 ticket is already awesome. You're 52XP short of Gold with this route (and already gold if you are Explorer with at least 52 XP this year)...
It's twice as expensive as the BLL run, but it gives you the AF 777 "best" long-haul business class experience (pretty good product), 48 additional XPs, and some time to spend in Mexico, much more exciting that BLL

AMS-LHR-CDG-MEX-CUN returns (book using travel agent as AF/KLM websites do not show the eu connecting options but they dont cost anything extra) - you can connect pretty much anywhere in EU (FRA,ZRH,VIE,FCO,CPH,BCN,LHR etc...)

Booked for the school holidays in Oct.
Thank you for the tip.
Did not try to maximise the stops as some others said it would be difficult to transit via USA for EU passengers.
AMS-CDG-CUN
CUN-MEX-AMS
yield a nice 186 points anyway and get to fly on the KLM 747-400 on upper deck!

Sadly you are not going to fly on the 747. KLM has retired all their 747s like many other airlines. They do still, temporarily, operate the 747 Combi, but as far as I am aware this is only for flights to China.

but it looks like out of Mexico it is the 747-400 "Mixed Configuration" that is flying, so I might still get lucky
