By my math, YVR-LAX-HKG should one-shot Alaska MVP status, which is well worth the trip in its own right. With Alaska joining OneWorld, I foresee dramatically increasing my travel with them going forward, and it will be nice to have at least some level of status while I work my way up the ranks.

Thanks Harko and Callmedtop, just booked two tickets on AA website with that exact itinerary YYZ-DFW-HKG-DPS, CAD$2900 for two, ticketed and showing up on AA and CX. No need to reposition which is great. November departure. As far as I could see, some other dates in November are still available.
