For anyone interested this fare is slowly coming back. There is now availability from IST to Asia with fares as low as 980 euros. Not the 7xx of the past but we have to wait for ATH to becomes a year round destination again.
The fare is available past this summer season and wide body the whole way with relativity small connection times for the Winter season. A330 from IST to RUH (3h layover) RUH to KUL all lie-flat.

I booked this last year for December 2020 travel
ATH-JED-KUL return
Of course, this didn't happen and I was told I can reschedule the travel up to Dec 2021 as long as there is availability.
I was also told I can change the route but not sure if there are any restrictions.
Has anyone else done it?

Manila is showing availability from start of May to end of October
Kuala Lumpur is showing availability from start of January to end of October (with prices as low as €825)
