Is anyone concerned about the transferring time in CAN due to the coronavirus pandemic? Guangzhou wasn't affected until today, where 14 new cases had just been reported, and possibly many more to come. We were flying onwards to KIX with a 2 hr connection time from T1, but now it appears that airports in China will introduce extra screening in airports, they now recommend arriving 3~4 hours prior. So we are thinking maybe we should switch to a more expensive flight that departs from T2 instead of T1 so that we don't have to queue for security again.

You should wait 1-4 weeks and reassess the situation. For all you know CAN may devolve into a place that you wouldn't want to be in even if someone gave you a million miles to transit there.

FYI I was also able to change my (now cancelled) HEL-HAJ to another German airport (DUS in my case) for free via Expedia.de phone. They also allowed my to freely move it +/-2 days.

Just to be sure my explanation and time assumptions are for arrival in T1 (e.g., Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, Air Asia). If you arrive in T2 (e.g., China Southern) it should be a bit more relaxed.
Thanks Topper

Awaiting to hear too... have booked positioning flights for STR and a hotel in Guangzhou for the night before the return journey (non refundable and wasn’t cheap!!) ... just in limbo about whether it’s worth booking a trip onward from CAN to elsewhere in Asia or not at this point, in case they’re cancelled!

Don't particularly want to pay a over-the-odds for refundable bookings...just in case all is fine!

Medically I’m not worried. Presumably if AY cancels they’ll allow a rebooking to say SIN or BKK?

not sure about AY, but a lot of notices were put out today by Chinese officials that you can cancel flights for free, but AFAIK it applies to domestic only?
Also currently in PVG besides a very grey and silent New Year's eve, there is nothing much else going on. Every restaurant and hotel has gone into full sanitization mode, as the Crowne Plaza across from my house does a complete wash down with strong disinfectant every few hours. I personally would not mind going to China as long as it is not CSX or WUH if I were on this tix, as the return is still a great value on the investment, and the chance of catching the virus in CAN is low, especially the airports and airport hotels are such sterile places. Of course, YMMV.

Just another data point, my AY102 on 26th May was also adjusted. Now on AY100 on 27th.

Took the agent a while as he had to open up fare availability.

I'm waiting to hear to. According to expert flyer there are only 12 people who have chosen seats on our flight. Happy to switch it to somewhere else but you don't know in advance where the next outbreak is going to be.

I agree with the commentary here, my feeling is CAN should be fine, I assume AY will allow reschedule to SIN, if CAN/HKG have restrictions.....I guess it's a waiting game see how bad it gets outside of Hubei.....

Not sure I could agree with that as CAN is where the domestic flights from China come in/depart.

Now that Finnair has updated their travel advisory to allow a cancellation or postponement, has anyone had any luck getting expedia.de to cancel their flight?
