After seeing beyounged experience, I am considering purchasing insurance for my reposition flight (ryanair with 4 hr connection time). My Chase CC covers for trip cancellation, but doesn't cover for missed connections. I will shop around to see if any third party insurer covers missed connections at a reasonable price

Please let us know if you find good insurance, ideally something that isn’t tied to a specific place of residence or trip length. Many insurance policies I’ve seen are only valid for residents of country X and for trips up to Y days. Which isn’t what you want when you’re living a nomadic lifestyle...

So here are my preliminary research results on trip protection insurance... it appears that there aren't any cheap nomadic style trip protection insurance plans. All of them are surprisingly country-specific and they only cover missed connections for cruise ships and tours. These are the viable options I found:

For US citizens/residents: RoamRight and Travelex on www.squaremouth.com/, both cost around 34EUR, and they specifically missed connection of any kind provided there's a 3+ hour delay in the first leg. Maximum coverage $500.
For UK residents: comparethemarket.com seems to yield lots of insurance policies with connection insurance. Though I'm not a UK resident so I didn't look into it further.
For Swedish residents: All plans from www.erv.se cover missed departure, starts at 10 EUR, I am still waiting for my SO to translate the exact terms to English, seems like the maximum coverage is 2500EUR.

Now a little disclaimer, I put down my trip cost as $1 and trip duration as 3 days (The days I'm actually travelling), as my credit card insurance would cover other aspects of the trip. I've noticed that the trip duration and trip cost have a huge impact on the quoted price.

Update regarding the AY102 schedule change - I used the AY web chat to ask if it was possible to change the flight due to the departure time moved by 1h30, and it seems the agent was able to change my return to the next AY100 for free.
I'm waiting for the confirmation e-mail - the change is already visible on AY app and on checkmytrip - but if it indeed works, I'm very happy.

If you on the booking manager on the finnair site you can do it online by youself as well. It aslo give the option to extend the trip for a couple of days if you like. My original flight back was on the 28th. It is offering me the AY100 and AY102 AND AY100 on the 2nd of may. The big difference being that there is an Embraer 190 on the flight to BLQ

ERV should have a document with all the terms in english on there site. That is if the Swedish ERV is anything like the Danish ERV.
I personally have only good things to say for there coverage in general.

Scandinavian travel insurance is usually quite good - but also usually very restrictive: Only for legal residents, only up to 90 days, trip must start and end in said country, etc.

Yes that indeed is the case. Also if anything happens to you they will only repatriate you to the Nordic countries or they will only get you family to you only if they are in the Nordic countries.

yes same for me, but I called the UK number first they said no because my fare is a restricted fare until I told him this was, in fact, an INVOL REROUTE and outside of my control. On hold for 5 mins and reticketed from AY102 on the 14th April to AY100 on the 15th April.
Gives an extra day of the holiday and a shorter journey home so I'm pleased

I was bit more lucky to move my original departure date from 26MAY to 30MAY with better connecting time in HEL and avoid a weekday departure

The new flight schedule doesn’t work for me anymore even though it’s only 1.5 hrs in difference. I might need to buy another ticket instead and use this later but the return ticket is only good for one month. Do you think AY allows me to change the date to few months later due to this involuntary schedule change ?

Does anybody know if it would be possible to change the inbound after you’ve flown the outbound?
Usually historic pricing should be used in such a case, right?

For what I know, the rules should not allow for any voluntary changes, before or after the outbound has been flown.
It should be stated on the ticket receipt under "Restriction(s)/Endorsements".
