I talked to AZ employee in my country today as I was not able to select seats with AF, so I asked AZ to do so. They were unable but they confirmed to me there is no issue with the booking. So, in my opinion, Alitalia will surely accept our tickets and we are all safe enough to start planning our holiday!

I notice that when I click on Customize My Travel on the Alitalia site, sometimes a banner pops up with the option to make an offer on an upgrade, even though my ticket shows business class and I've selected business class seats. Also, when I go to add luggage, it only gives me the option to add 1, at a cost of 240 EUR on the MAD-LAX portion, and 285 EUR for LAX-MAD. Is this perhaps to add an additional bag beyond the 2 that should be included?

Alitalia error fee
Hi, I've booked error fee with Alitalia - BCN-LAX - business class week ago. I have tickets and reservation is confirmed on their website. Do you have any experience with them re error fees? Do they usually accept those or should I expect the cancelation soon?

I saved over $300 (60€ each instead of $140). Never mentioned again, not when I called the day before departure to add checked bags to each ticket (@20€ per ticket), not when we checked in online, not at the bag drop where docs were checked and bps issued.

Not sure about which codes you mean, but for a start with ita matrix, I'd google "how to use ita matrix". The first suggestions from google are travel blogs, where it's well explained in my opinion.
For more specific question about ita matrix, you should also have a look here
You can always book a room at a flexible rate! And change it at the very last moment if a better rate is then available.
