I purchased on Alitalia's website and decided to cancel it before the 24 hours have passed. Called Alitalia and both representatives told me I could not cancel it because the 24 hour rule was not valid as I purchased a flight that originates in Spain. I mentioned the DOT 24h window but they didn't care. So I asked for an e-mail address and sent them an e-mail within the 24 hour period so there was some form of guarantee I have requested it to be cancelled before the 24 hours have passed. I thought the DOT rule should apply to any flight and any carrier that has an airport in the USA. Shouldn't the DOT rule apply to this BCN-LAX route on AZ flight?

I am not even sure Expedia got to ticket mine so it might not have even got that far and they couldn’t ticket it when they tried, C’est la vie.. clearly AZ don’t have the PR to keep up that Cathay Pacific did so fingers crossed for the rest of you,

Yes, the authorization on my card has been captured as well. This is most likely an automated process, but does mean that if Alitalia doesn’t honor the fare they need to refund the tickets.

Your first step is to be 100% sure that your ticket was issued in USA (which should be your case if you used Alitalia U.S. version) but it's always better if you double check it.

Charges also put through now. Booking still intact on AZ website.
After the weekend I'm starting to look what to do when in LA for 3 days (I know we have to wait, but for me this is half the fun)

Will be interesting to see if AZ makes any 'announcement' about honouring or cancelling these reservations.
In recent times we've seen airlines like CX and NZ announcing formally they will be honouring their 'mapping errors'. However others that I have booked (SU WAW-ICN and PR LHR-HKG-LHR) there was no word one way or another, the reservations just remained intact.
The issue I have with AZ using 'fare mapping error' as an excuse is that (for me) it didn't seem to follow the same course as times previous I experienced these mapping error fares. I profess to be no expert at all and can only go by the searches and results I myself have made but generally in the past availability is WIDE open during the sale period of the mis-mapped fare (as it's usually just a regular discounted economy one). In the case with AZ (although I was only looking for SEP/OCT) I found one departure date in SEP and one in OCT.

Thank you for the screenshot. I was wondering if it was actually communication from AZ (and that's where I had looked on Twitter), but it's one person's report, so we can't know if his itinerary was actually ticketed in the first place, nor if it's the OTA that took action or AZ themselves.

No problem. That's what I thought too maybe the passengers itinerary was not ticketed and hence why they canceled it.
My ticket is still valid though, I would recommend you guys to download the Alitalia app and add your ticket into the app so you check daily for a few days if the itinerary still is there.
