You guys are giving yourselves (and the NZ Twitter team) a lot of unnecessary heartburn over this “pending” charge thing. This is the way EVERY transaction with credit cards works. Charge pending, 2-3 days charge posted. It may even disappear, though it is still reflected in your available credit IME. If they want to cancel the tickets they’ll cancel them not let pending charges roll off.
Everytime you walk out of a store the charge on your card is pending. No reasonable person would say that the merchant hasn’t recieved payment for what you bought. (They wouldn’t let you leave!)

For me I never saw the charge, but had my receipt from Expedia plus my ticket numbers, confirmation e-mail, and NZ conf code. When we called our CC the agent said even though its not listed online the charge is pending in the system but isn't listed due to the weekend basically it vanishes before posting. We did have other much lower $ transactions post to our account the same day so not sure if it's an amount thing? But I think we are good.

United.com for domestic itinerary probably batch processes daily. Air NZ for USD transactions over a holiday? Who knows?
The reality is when the NZ Twitter team first said that paid for reservations would be honored there couldn’t have been any transactions that were actually paid for under the “well, it had to actually be posted to your credit card account to be considered ‘paid’” standard. So they’d be cancelling them all. I think the bigger risk people aren’t taking into account is that the NZ Twitter team might actually have no idea what they’re talking about re:this fare.
