There are many good fares to China (PEK or PVG). If you have a Chinese visa, these options will be provided. Otherwise, you may have to take advantage of TWOV (visa on arrival). Its information can be found: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chin...er-thread.html

If your requested PQM is in a few thousand, please give a more accurate amount. You will get fewer options with a roundup number (eg, 5000 instead of 4830; IAD-SFO nonstop will work for the latter.)

Appears it's the same plane doing SFO-SAN-IAH, but please verify. Unfortunately, if you SDC to nonstop you only get 3270PQM...just barely short! So don't do that.

UPDATE: for nonstop, it's going to cost more. Your CONUS options are pretty much SEA/PDX/GEG only, which is up there. So maybe something like this instead:

With so few days remaining on the calendar, I do not bet against a price hike. If you can check fare rules such as the advance purchase requirement (go to ITA matrix, for example), you can make an educated bet. If you book on UA, you can hold the ticket for a few days (with fees). I do not know whether or not LH let you do the same. Las Vegas is a good place for a short vacation even you do not gamble.
By the way, there is a huge gap between 1K and Premier Platinum in benefits. I won’t risk 1K status (with about 300 PlusPoints as the major benefit) in your situation.

You can always SDC one of the flights, to reduce your time there. You can save $6 by traveling on the 24th.

Another option is to look at Premier Accelerator, to see if it makes more sense.

I was planning to spend Christmas at home alone. This post prompted me to spend a few days in Montreal instead. Not a MR, but 12/23-26 for $239 is better than staying home alone.
