Visa Information: check out the Vietnam visa/VOA thread in the Asia forum. You can get either a visa on arrival where you get the stamp on arrival) or a "looseleaf" visa in advance from a VN Consulate in the US (which allows you to go straight to the immigration queue). There are sometimes lines for the VOA stamp and so the loosleaf approach can save you some time.
Seat Assignments
per NWPlatinum below - Cathay blocks out all seats except for 2D for some reason. I never understood the reasoning behind this but in any event just contact them for a seat assignment and they’ll let you have your choice. They like to block out seats for people with bassinets and babies. But you can usually get 2A, which is the best see if you’re solo traveler. Just say I want seat 2A and I’ll move if requested at the airport (never was asked to move)

Everyone needs an e-visa approval before boarding if they will enter the country. (e.g. clear customs). Connecting flights - even on separate tickets - do not require a visa IF IF IF the connecting airline has a counter in the transit area. (The airline may have their own rules.) Going back to the same country is not allowed without clearing customs first.
Expect the visa check at your point of departure. (Computer will flag your ticket.) The actual stamp is received on arrival (in most cases). (There is also the possibility of a visa insert with no need to go to 'visa on arrival'.)

You are right in your case for the one way you've booked. In the cases of the roundtrip, the fare is allocated across all segments of the roundtrip based on the fare for the total journey (i.e. the inbound will constitute half the roundtrip fare)

And over 25,000 EQM's so half way to MVP Gold. I'm hoping that CX honors this as I just did the status match to AS MVP Gold 75K (still waiting for it to process otherwise I would have done this trip today.) If they don't honor it, I'd be willing to let them keep the money and just post the flight segments as if flown.

Is it possible to credit the KA segments to CX and the CX to AS? Is it advisable? I would not want to risk losing the long segment AS mileage.

That is what i am hoping. A few current $1200ish exAsia biz fares now and even CX had them
not too long ago (ex-MLE and ex-CMB), so not clearly a mistake in my mind. I have plenty of receipts in my inbox for our family of five flying business class for what we paid on this.
My big question for US based folks is where will that question be addressed: will the DOT entertain a dispute about mistake and if not what court would have jurisdiction? My guess is this exceeds the allowable amount for small claims, if they even have jurisdiction, especially if you booked for multiple pax.
1) All J & F fares were mistakes. $674 was the same price in J & Y - clearly a mistake.
2) If CX end up cancelling all reservations, you would be made whole. What would you be suing/claiming? The real price of J/F? Emotional damage?
Good luck trying to claim ORC, on partner FFP no less.

My HAN-HKG-SFO and SFO-HKG-HAN in F are all in my Asia miles account marked as confirmed. That's the good news. The bad is that my wife's red carpet TV premier is now set for my first flying date. Yes, first world problems abound. Any mention int hese links of trying to make a change for a change fee? I have not seen if so. Thx

We have to go through this in every one of these threads. Let's address them one more time:
1) All J & F fares were mistakes. $674 was the same price in J & Y - clearly a mistake.
2) If CX end up cancelling all reservations, you would be made whole. What would you be suing/claiming? The real price of J/F? Emotional damage?
Good luck trying to claim ORC, on partner FFP no less.
